Meet Peach, My Loving Pit Bull - The Anti-Palin

Posted: 09/08/08 05:08 PM ET

Reading Andy Borowitz's blog on the HuffPost tonight, I was reminded of how outraged I was when Sarah Palin made her pit bull/hockey mom reference. You know the one:

"What's the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick.

The second I heard that pit-slam from Governor Palin, I thought about putting some lipstick on my gorgeous pit bull, Peach, and sending Palin the photo. Of the two breeds -- animal-killing women and docile loving pits, I personally know only one -- docile loving pits. Truthfully, I'd have very little in common with a wealthy American woman who likes killing animals for sport.

Of pit bulls, though, I've rescued several and have had two of my own. The first was a wonderful female who lived to fourteen and raised a 3 day-old abandoned kitten as her own.

And now we have young Peach -- a year and a half old male -- who, before he moved into our house, had been abandoned at least twice. Peach is the most gentle guy in the world. He loves every person and every animal -- including our first pit's kitten who is now a cat of nineteen.

Peach's best animal friends are Iddy, our three year-old five-pound chihuahua, and our 110 pound golden retriever. Rather than going on and on about how gentle young Peach is -- allow me to show you Peach and Iddy's youtube -- a great favorite of their fans. It's a typical three minutes in their daily "lopsided" routine:

In all likelihood, there will only be one gratitude I will ever have toward Governor Palin. It's this great opportunity to introduce more folks to Peach & Iddy. After seeing what Peach puts up with day-in and day-out from his irascible buddy Iddy, people will hopefully be convinced that there are other pitbulls like Peach who are characteristically loving. And just like young Peach was, once upon a not too distant time, many are desperate for homes.

Now please excuse me - it's time to get more valium for Iddy!

Thank you soooo much!! As the loving "owner" (who are we kidding here?) of a pit bull, Daisy, I was more than a little irritated by Palin's stupid, ignorant comment. I was also very happy when Jon Stewart on "The Daily Show", the owner of 2 pits said of the "Difference between a hockey Mom and a pit bull: "One is unfairly maligned in spite of evidence that it is no worse than any other dog, and one is an artificial demographic that is no better or worse than any other mom."
XOXOXO to you all out there that love the pits,

As the former humane officer and executive director of a humane society and shelter, I rehabilitated many pitbulls I took from dog fighters. They are wonderful animals and don't deserve being used by this egregious woman as a semi-mascot.

that was awesome. I wanted to scoop up Peach so he didn't have to keep getting harassed by Izzy. :-p

"... people will hopefully be convinced that there are other pitbulls like Peach who are characteristically loving."

pit bulls are loving animals, just like all other breeds. idiotic people unfortunately train some of them to be vicious, which is where they get their bad rap.

Pit Bulls have such a bad reputation because of idiots like Palin...I had a pure bred Pitt Bull before and she was fine...no aggression...she was the friendliest dog ever and never hurt anyone! She played great with kids and would never bite at people. I have seen aggressive Pit's before but they were victims of dog fighting...their owners made them into "fighting dogs"..caged them up, cropped their ears and tails and treated them sternly at all times....never gave them any love. If you give love, you get love back. If not, then no wonder some of those dogs become aggressive. Its just logic, something Palin clearly lacks.

Peach has the patience of a saint! haha That is what a beautiful, gentle, being looks like when they are filled with love as Peach so obviously is! Just as humans can be trained killers which this country has done for years, other mammals can be trained as killers too. What people need to remember is the violence does not come from the nature of the pit bull but the nature of the human who has created the violence. Yes, you can say not all breeds have that in them, probably true. Still, if it's not taught you will have a gorgeous loving Pit just like Peach!
