What's the ideal holiday spirit? That's a question we're asked all the time. Though there is no one right answer, rum may be the closest liquor to fitting the bill.

Yes, rum. While it's, of course, known for being a staple of delicious warm-weather cocktails like the Daiquiri, the Mojito and the Dark 'n Stormy (which we actually enjoy year-round), the alcohol also works in wintry concoctions, too.

From the Puerto Rican holiday punch Coquito and classic Hot Buttered Rum to a complex Maple Old Fashioned, there are plenty of rummy beverages you can fix for the holidays.

And to help you pick the perfect bottle, we enlisted the aid of famed D.C. bartender Derek Brown. He selected his five favorites to give this year.

If you're looking for other presents, don't forget to check out all of our Holiday Gift Guides, which feature spirits and gifts of many kinds chosen by top mixologists and experts, as well as our Entertaining Guide with tips and recipes from celebrity chefs and cookbook authors.

Cheers!
