If you visit the south of France and want something refreshing to drink on a hot day, there's a pretty good chance you'll be offered a glass of Ricard.

This delicious aperitif "is as French as the baguette," says talented bartender and Liquor.com advisory board member Simon Ford. That's not to mention its being delicious.

Ricard is a pastis, which means that like its cousin absinthe, it has an anise flavor—but it was never accused of being hallucinogenic or banned. (To learn more about the now-legal-again absinthe, check out another of our How to Cocktail videos.)

Thankfully, the traditional way to serve the "Milk of Marseille," as Ricard is known, is incredibly simple, requiring only water and ice. In the short video below, Ford demonstrates the proper technique for making it. And after a sip, you'll feel transported to the Rivera.

Cheers!
