Frankly, most any beach destination in the northern hemisphere fits these criteria -- which is why September's my favorite month to travel -- but northern New England's beaches continue to be one of my favorite places for a quick fall getaway.

<a href="http://www.thebestbeach.net/beaches-northeast-usa-hampton-beach-hampton-beach-nh/" target="_hplink">Hampton Beach</a> in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire is an affordable beach getaway perfect for families.
<a href="http://www.thebestbeach.net/beaches-northeast-short-sands-beach-york-maine/" target="_hplink">Short Sands Beach</a> is in York, Maine near the <a href="http://nubblelight.org" target="_hplink">Nubble Lighthouse</a>. It's a nice little pocket beach within walking distance of hotels, restaurants, and entertainment.

Old Orchard Beach is one of the most popular beach destinations in the <a href="http://www.thebestbeach.net/old-orchard-beach-surveying-hotels-campground-and-other-property-rentals-and-the-pier-of-this-maine-town/" target="_hplink">southern Maine coastal region</a>. If you visit Old Orchard Beach, don't miss the Old Orchard Pier and Palace Playland Park.
