Robert Greenwald's juggernaut viral-film production company, Brave New Films, has responded to the recent barrage of attacks against the community organization ACORN with a new film explaining the group's larger mission, the steps it has taken to register more than 1 million new voters this year, its internal safeguards against voter registration fraud, and what it considers to be a coordinated effort by Republicans to suppress the vote of young, minority and other underrepresented voters in next month's election.

The video is viewable below and also is available for free download and distribution here. According to a press release issued Tuesday morning, ACORN also is holding film-viewing house parties in 17 cities around the country later Tuesday, including Washington DC, Boston, Springfield MA, Los Angeles, Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Hartford, Orlando, Houston, Dallas, Bridgeport, Detroit, Flint, Twin Cities and Charlotte.

ACORN has taken a public-relations beating for more than a month by conservatives ranging from an advocate for predatory lenders (testifying as a "vote fraud" expert at a Congressional hearing) and Fox News to John McCain and Sarah Palin. Emerging reports suggest the U.S. Attorney's Office and F.B.I. are also unfairly targeting the organization. But ACORN is beginning to return fire, making efforts to explain its mission, the full scope of its community activism work, and its quality-control measures .

ACORN considers educational efforts, like Greenwald's film, to be especially important in light of the vandalism and threats it has experienced since the GOP negative publicity heated up last month.
