On a recent trip to Moscow, while enjoying a rare, free afternoon, I happened upon a description of the Polytechnical Museum, number 529 out of the Lonely Planet's 579 "Things To Do" in Moscow. Despite the dismal rating, the museum's promise of over 160,000 pieces of Soviet technology pleased my inner science nerd. I took off to investigate.

I saw retro space suits, 1/64-scale models of Siberian mining encampments and a robot repeatedly running into a wall while muttering monosyllabic Russian words. But my favorite part? The ladies watching over the dusty technology. These keepers of the outdated fit in among the obsolete widgets and barely seemed to notice the click of my shutter as I passed by.
