5 Ways to Celebrate Your Victories

Eating smart takes knowledge, patience, and practice, and without patience there is no practice. Practice is the victory. Eat the food that is best for your body. You may live longer, be healthier, and have more fun through the years because of the food you choose today.

Have you attended seminars or listened to keynote addresses where the motivational speaker is recounting their emotional, personal, or professional downward spiral? Too often I think presenters spend too much time on the spiral and not enough time on the victory.

While the audience might identify with the dramatic events of the speaker's life, how does that help the listeners make a breakthrough? It may help them to realize they are not alone, and knowing that can be empowering, but let's get to the victory!

In every life some rain must fall. In life as in nature, rain helps us celebrate and enjoy the sunshine. We want the rain to end. We want to go outside, or outside ourselves.

Recently I was interviewed on a TV program, and was continually asked about being overweight, how it felt, things I said to myself, etc. While the overweight viewers may identify with these feelings, you never want to get stuck there. You need to know how you can take care of your body weight and health for your life time, regardless of circumstances.

Five ways to celebrate your victories:

  1. Use skills you already possess. You exhibit and use many skills in other areas of your life. Put those skills to use in your eating habits. If you are smart, then eat smart. If you have patience, be patient. If you can reason with others, start to reason with yourself. Your list of skills continues.

  • Ditch the diets. You may have learned different techniques from various diet plans and now you are choosing the parts you like most from each plan to create your own diet. This does not work because you've changed each plan's balance.
  • Believe in yourself. The diet plans that you have frequented over the years want you to believe in their programs and their products. You may have learned some valuable information from these plans, but they are mostly a great business plan. Believe in yourself and your capabilities so you are not dependent on any commercial diet.
  • Make how you eat, who you are, and not what you are doing. If you are following a diet, or you say, "I'm on XYZ diet," it's temporary. When you operate from a position of knowledge and power and choose food because it's good for your body, mind, and health, it's lasting.
  • Celebrate the victory. Every day you might experience a setback and also realize a victory. Stop living in the setback and celebrate your victories, even the minutest.
  • A client once said to me, "I found my world when I found my eating." As you treat your body to good nourishing food you'll find it easier to handle difficult situations and circumstances in your life. It's all part of your new, healthier outlook.

Eating smart takes knowledge, patience, and practice, and without patience there is no practice. Practice is the victory. Eat the food that is best for your body. You may live longer, be healthier, and have more fun through the years because of the food you choose today.

You are only as healthy as the food you eat.
