by guest blogger Maya Rodale, author of smart and sassy romance novels

Stop reading this blog.

It's summer and you should turn off the Internet, pick up a book, and take it outside to a hammock, a park bench, poolside, or anyplace that makes the polar vortex a distance memory.

But before you go...

Read FUN things. Read random things. Right now, I'm alternating between a few books: I'm reading Gotham: A History of New York City to 1898 for the first time--and I swear it weighs at least eight pounds (I'm combining reading with weight lifting)--and I'm rereading of Anne of Green Gables. That Ann-with-an-e Shirley is more of a hoot than I remember. I thought I had invented the word "tragical," but the honor clearly belongs to her--that's my girl.

In the event that you're in the mood for some reading suggestions, I've put together a handy list of some favorite romance novels over at Scribd, which is a service that offers unlimited books from its collection for a few bucks a month.

August is also Read-a-Romance Month. In case you're wondering why you should celebrate it, check out the blog where 90-plus romance authors give their reasons...and provide lots of book recommendations.

Or you could ask what your friends and family are reading--it will probably spark a non-work/kids/current events conversation and you'll get some ideas of what to read now that you've finished this blog and turned off the Internet. : )

Happy Reading!
