Show the Media and the Congressional Leadership *IT IS* a Referendum on the War

Robert Naiman, Just Foreign Policy, Election Day, 2006

As I noted in a previous blog (New York Times Says Dem Congress Won't Have Authority to Change Course of Iraq War ) there is a major effort underway to try to minimize the impact of the election on the war. This despite the fact that polls show 1) A majority of Americans do believe the election is a referendum on the war and 2) A majority of Americans expect that if the Democrats win there will be a change in course (see the Just Foreign Policy News for November 2. )

As the IndyMedia folks say, become the media. We're asking you to help us publicize anti-war election results by posting them as comments to this blog post.

In particular, we'd like to see:

1) Referenda results. In Illinois, for example, referenda calling for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq are on the ballot in Springfield, Aurora, Champaign-Urbana, DeKalb, and Oak Park, among other places.

2) Election results where an antiwar or troops out or set-a-deadline candidate defeats a prowar or "no deadline" candidate.

We welcome you to post links which give current results (like your county clerk's office if your town has a referendum), or other links to antiwar election results.

See you at the polls, and in the media battle afterwards over interpreting the results!
