Reflecting on the Platform Draft - Oro Valley, Arizona

The Democratic Platform draft succeeds in reflecting the views and opinions of the Obama supporters who met in Oro Valley, Arizona. The first priority of this group was attention to the economy, and all in attendance agreed that fixing the economy could only succeed if it was tied to a significant change in our foreign policy (specifically, ending the war in Iraq and diverting the billions of dollars supporting that war effort to domestic spending). The phrase repeated the most by attendees was "a new Marshall Plan." This group of Democrats felt the United States urgently needs a domestic policy of targeted re-growth and renewal of opportunity, as well as a foreign policy which emphasized rebuilding and education rather than bombs and invasion.

We may need a Marshall Plan for Iraq and Afganistan, but we need a New Deal for the US economy. We need jobs for the people here and regulation of financial instutions who have given us yet another economic crisis due to risky behaviors.

This sounds wonderful! Just in the last few years, I've paid closer attention to our/America's foreign polices and I am ashamed of the lies and manipulations we've engaged in throu-out the world. Call me "Pollianna," but look where we are now by being chumps and liars.
