Two dots make a straight line. Time to connect them.
Dot one: Bush/Cheney are the biggest liars in American presidential history.
They lied about the connection between September 11 and Saddam. They lied about the President's Daily Briefing warning them about al-Qaeda. They lied about having indisputable WMD evidence. They lied about illegal wiretapping. They lied about torture. They lied about... well, this paragraph would take about eight years to complete.
Dot two: McCain/Palin are liars.
They're lying about Obama on taxes, they're lying about Obama on education, they're lying about McCain's "mavericky" record, they're lying about Palin's "reformer" record, they're even lying about their own lying.
This isn't just garden variety political hardball. It isn't even routine Atwater/Rove slime. It's as ugly as anything Orwell predicted in 1984, as reptilian as any propaganda spewed around the world by authoritarian governments of the left or the right.
And because the "news" media today are run by a profit motive that elevates entertaining coverage above enlightening reporting, and by a definition of journalism so bizarre that it recuses itself from even the possibility of pursuing objective truth, the Republican disinformation blitzkrieg has found in the mainstream press its ideal epistemological enabler.
There is a straight line from Bush/Cheney contempt for the truth, to McCain/Palin contempt for the truth, from Bush/Cheney/Iraq to McCain/Palin/fill-in-the-blank.
For reasons that seem particularly ridiculous from the perspective of the current campaign, the impeachment of Bush/Cheney was considered politically impossible -- "off the table." Two terms of Bush/Cheney are what you get when the elected government voluntarily deprives itself of its legitimate Constitutional power to prevent the abuse of power.
The McCain/Palin campaign is what you get when the press abdicates its role as the Fourth Estate, and instead is played like a piccolo by the Republican ministry of propaganda, and covers the race like a reality show. If the GOP ticket were under oath, they'd already be guilty of perjury many times over.
And a McCain/Palin presidency? Just try to imagine it without recourse to the checks and balances our Founders gave us.

Alaskan Rally last Saturday had well over 1000 participants.
Our "To Do List" is as follows:
Call on Atty Gen. Colberg to resign--rally to his office will occur this week.
Ask the State Bar to debarr Colberg for felony witness pampering in Troopergate.
Impeach Palin.
Impeach "Governor" McCain--Get his campaign out of Alaskan government.
Walt Monegan for Governor.
When McCain loses, he will dump her like ( as Letterman said) an ugly date.
Palin will have little to come home to except public humilation and the end of her political career.
She betrayed those who voted for her and threw this state under the bus.
Think Alaskans aren't tough, independent and "don't care how they do it outside"
Just watch this narcissist get paid back for the pain she has caused good people in this state.
Liz P. Anchorage, Alaska
Of course Palin should be Impeached and in Alaska for sure: See the following:
sure she can be impeached. She took an oath of office to uphold the Alaska Constitution, uphold State laws, and to Faithfully execute the laws of the State of Alaska. She is not above the law. see below:
§ 20. Impeachment
All civil officers of the State are subject to impeachment by the legislature. Impeachment shall originate in the senate and must be approved by a two-thirds vote of its members. The motion for impeachment shall list fully the basis for the proceeding. Trial on impeachment shall be conducted by the house of representatives. A supreme court justice designated by the court shall preside at the trial. Concurrence of two-thirds of the members of the house is required for a judgment of impeachment. The judgment may not extend beyond removal from office, but shall not prevent proceedings in the courts on the same or related charges
Note that Sarah Palin may not only be Impeached but Prosecuted after Impeachment in the criminal court.
NUFF SAID!

Since Mc Cain is a senator, maybe he can be impeached. Gov Palin isn't an elected federal official; as I understand it, she can't be impeached under federal law. Alaska will have to impeach Sarah, if they have the goods on her & the desire to impeach her.
We progressives must save Sarah Palin from becoming subect to federal laws or whatever which would allow her to be impeached by making sure that she doesn't get elected the USA's veep. Save Sarah-vote for Obama & Biden. Who says progressives don't love America?
There is so much polarization between the two parties. Why don't we just split?
Barack Obama is wrong. There is a Blue States of America, and a Red States of America. The United States of America is wrong and will never be back.
The Blue States would include the West Coast I-5 Corrdor from California to Washington, the Upper Midwest, and New England. The Red States would include everything else.
The Blue States could make our own laws with legal abortion, no private gun ownership, high tax rates, great social programs, and continued public school dominance.
Perhaps this is one idea that could get bipartisan support across the country?
This is a good idea. It would expose the Red States for the drag that they are and elevate the Blue States. What do I mean? Simply this:
Top 10 wealthiest states
Maryland $65,144
New Jersey $64,470
Connecticut $63,422
Hawaii $61,160
Massachusetts $59,963
New Hampshire $59,683
Alaska $59,393
California $56,645
Virginia $56,277
Minnesota $54,023
The 10 poorest states
The states with the lowest median household income
State Income
New Mexico $40,629
Montana $40,627
Tennessee $40,315
Kentucky $39,372
Louisiana $39,337
Alabama $38,783
Oklahoma $38,770
Arkansas $36,599
West Virginia $35,059
Mississippi $34,473

The Red States are really what's holding this country back. So let's divide it up, and see how the ideologies really work out when practiced full-on, 100% of the time.
This has as much likelihood as several Blue States along the U.S./Canada border voting generously in favour of seceding from the U.S.A. and becoming one with the Great White North.
I'm sure I speak for many western Canadians when I say we really wouldn't mind taking up Washington State (we'd probably have to rename it). The rest might have to be negotiated, though ;)
Empeach them? If things go right in November you'll get 8 years to try.
The fact that you are illiterate show which party you support.....the repugs. The word is spelled, Impeach.
Exactly. Tax and Bomb Conservatives tell one big lie after another -- anything to start another unending war so their friends can go on making the big money Communism's dead? Then let's declare war on the world's largest religion because a terrorist mini-minority, led by the saintly young scion of a family whose old crony ties to the Bush administration have always been well-known, managed to bomb a few buildings. Figure it out: a few buildings, four airplanes, 2,500 dead Americans = Three Trillion Dollars for the Tax and Bomb crowd's favorite charity -- the War Machine. And I don't hear anyone saying "No." I hear them saying "Maybe we could spend a little less next year? Maybe we could move on to another country?" Most Americans keep on voting for the bread and butter -- the Tax and Bomb Conservaties and their war machine.
Big business is like a reptile it has no soul and it has a large appetite. The more big business gets the more it wants. Still it's in the the food chain and you can't kill it altogether. You know you've got to keep your eyes on this reptile so it doesn't consume your family, especially the more vulnerable ones.
Main Stream Media is big business doing what big business does - protecting itself in whatever way it sees fit.
Now who's going to feed the beast all that they want - and who's going the keep check so the rest of us can survive.
I think you know the answer.
Vote Obama/Biden.
You want any more evidence that the Republican party under McCain is no different than the Republican party under Bush?
There was an article here a few weeks ago about Nicole Sexton and Susan Johnston's new book 'Party Favors', about political fundraising. They had a book signing scheduled in Denver during the DNC convention and another in St. Paul during the RNC convention. Guess which one was pressured into cancelling? I reiterate, a BOOK SIGNING at a BARNES & NOBLE was cancelled because of pressure from the GOP.
It's the exact same brand of politics the Bush administration has been practicing for the last 8 years -- George Bush can't have someone who's not a pre-screened supporter in any of his rallies for fear of a pointed QUESTION, and John McCain's Republican Party won't allow a BOOK SIGNING of a potentially embarassing book to be in the same CITY as its convention.
I'll tell you one thing, makes me want to go to amazon and by as many copies of Party Favors as I can.
"there was an article a few weeks ago" ....
Really, care to provide the reference? Care to provide proof that the GOP was somehow able to squelch a book signing?
You have some intelligent, well thought out piece with lively comments - and you get childish, pouty, BDS filled dreck like this! How sad!
Where are all you outraged journalists? Get out there on TV, radio, newspapers, Internet and STOP this nonsense. You should REFUSE to even report all these lies and quit falling for their scheme to get you to repeat them over and over and over. That's their strategy. Then the idiots of the world think they're true. Where is your integrity? Where are your ethics?
WE ALL NEED TO BE OUTRAGED THAT OUR COUNTRY IS BEING HIJACKED, YET AGAIN, BY LIARS, THIEVES and THE INCOMPETENT. The Republican party has lost its soul, whatever small piece was left. Get out there and start e-mailing and calling the networks and publications to get their lies off the airwaves. Our lives depend on it.
a nation deserves its leaders.
Yes!
The press is so warped and driven by profit at any cost, they will fan any lie if it means ratings.
I'm thinking of the Hillary/Obama debate during primary season. George Stephanopoulos and Charles Gibson wouldn't even PRETEND to be objective while "moderating" that debate. They just sat there and threw anything that would stick to the wall.
"I think they're turning on us." Gibson famously remarked.
Ya think?
Yes, Marty. Yes.
I'd sent an email to TPM saying exactly the same thing, moments before reading your post. I wrote that the Obama campaign has to call the mendacious fearmongering what it is. It has to say some version of,
"The McCain-Palin campaign is trying to lead voters by the nose with tall tales and outright lies. The American people have more honor than the McCain-Palin campaign, and they're already fed up with being treated this way by the Bush-Cheney administration."
And keep saying it until the media have repeated it enough to have had an effect. Don't even think about moving on from it till everyone's heard it a hundred times.
But don't use the word "mendacious." "Lying" will do just fine.
I'm just sick of this entire campaign. McCain and Plain are pigs. Like those republicans who support them, they're greedy oinkers with big oil behind them and a get-sick-and-die attitiude toward Americans who have no health insurance or can't afford to pay for even what they do have.
As for Obama, I just saw him on TV talking about "winding down the war in Iraq". He doesn't talk about ending it any more, just winding it down. Well, winding roads can take an awfully long time to navigate and that's what's going to happen if McCain or Obama get the presidency. When you talk about ending the war "responsibly" as Obama does over and over, responsiblilty is only evident in ending it quickly and getting the hell out of Iraq and saying so. We're not hearing this any more, if in fact those of us who wanted to believe the democrats would do exactly that ever really heard it at all.
I wonder were I can get a campaign pin ! A no pig with lipstick button and a bumper sticker .
Don't you love the ad where they say "He did x," and "She did Y," and it's all total B.S., and then at the end there are pictures of them -- her with the thumbs up. He is making some other goofball gesture indicating how cool he is. Makes my skin crawl.
PREEMPTIVE IMPEACHMENT!
Yup. It's called voting Obama/Biden 08. Let's do it.
Well, Nancy Pelosi could become our first female president in a round about way....elect McCain/Palin, he dies, she takes over, she is impeached...enter Nancy.
The ownership of news organizations should be stand-alone companies and not part of a giant conglomerate with their own agendas. Wouldn't it be nice to have honest straight news once again?
We have a lot of cleaning up to do next year.
You really expect Nancy "let's switch to natural gas to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels" Pelosi will still be speaker after this election cycle?
Yep.
