There Goes the Planetary Air Conditioner, Folks, says federal snow/ice scientist Walt Meier, reports Justin Gillis at the New York Times. The National Snow and Ice Data center reports that the Arctic ice hit a record new low recently. Check out this video and the graphic below, shared by Peter Sinclair, which shows just how much faster than predicted by climate models the ice up there is really melting. NASA chief scientist Dr. James Hansen says scientists agree we have a planetary emergency.

Planetary Emergency? What planetary emergency? Dept:
Mitt Romney's energy plan of "drill, baby, drill" is exactly the plan that his fossil fuel backers (Koch brothers, Exxon et al) want, reports Jeff Goodell at the RollingStone. An inelegant plan - and also disastrous.

Arctic Death Spiral Continues, reports Aister Doyle at Reuters News, as global warming melts Arctic ice, allowing exploiters to mine more fossil fuels, which will create more global warming, which will melt more ice, which will... well, you get the idea -- I hope.

Too Many People Create Climate Change Say Faith Groups, in the overpopulated African country Malawi (home of the plastic bottle and tree branches wind turbine - no joke), reports Patricia Masinga at the Nyasa Times. The multi-faith coalition will reach out to their flocks, guiding them towards responsible reproduction. Out of the mouths of small countries come big messages.

Faith-Based Climate Change Voting Bloc: Calling on presidential candidates to address climate change and pledge to hold a summit on addressing it within the first 100 days in offic, the petition released by the National Climate Summit 2013 Coalition is signed by over 1300 faith leaders, elected officials, civil rights groups, environmental activists, business representatives, and others, reports Catherine Woodiwiss at Climate Progress. She notes that faith groups are increasingly willing to put their vote on the line for climate action.

Do you know of a good video or graphic connected with climate change? Have a cool "Every day is Earth Day" nature picture of yours you'd like to share with us? Put a weblink to it in the comments section below, and maybe we'll post it!

Every day is Earth Day, folks, as I was reminded by this 3-inch tall Arctic rhododendron I photographed, blooming in the summer night of Siberia. Making the U.S. a global clean energy leader will ensure a heck of a lot more jobs, and a clean, safe future, despite what Mitt Romney thinks. If you'd like to tell Congress you'll VOTE for clean energy you can join the increasing numbers of people doing so here. For more detailed summaries of the above and other climate change items, audio podcasts and texts are freely available.
