Most Trees "On the Edge" With Climate Change under business as usual, says a big new scientific study, reports Michael Lemonick at Climate Central. With more droughts, trees will try to suck up water faster from drier soil, and end up sucking air, which fatally clogs their water "veins"; most of the world's trees are already "on the edge." So, which future do you want to invest in -- renewable clean energy, or plastic Christmas trees? It's getting drier as you think...

Trees in a Warming World: If They Lose, We Do, Too

Mr. Bill Meets Barbie as a science fair girl explains the effects of global warming in this must-see video at Climate Progress. Careful with that blow torch, kid.

Gain Clean Energy Or Lose Trillions from climate change, said the world's biggest investors to governments recently, reports Reuters via the Guardian and The Huffington Post. Investments and retirement funds are already at risk from accelerating climate change, while investing in the right policies will spur economic investment, just as green policies are doing now, they noted. Clean energy, cap and trade, energy efficiency -- take your pick, people, just do it!

Climate Gap Widening, Says UN, as global efforts to address climate change are increasingly falling short of their goals, reports Karl Ritter at the Associated Press via the Boston Globe. How about a global clean energy marathon to catch up?

Geothermal Energy Rocks with new mega installations, creating cheaper, denser sources of energy than solar, reports Chris Williams at Climate Progress. And, unlike solar, they can be constructed underground, not using precious surface real estate. A video highlights the largest U.S. geothermal heat pump project under construction.

U.S. Coal Declines As Overseas It Grows especially in India and China, reports Bryan Walsh at Time Magazine. Furthermore, U.S. coal is being replaced by the fossil fuel natural gas, whose combustion still adds way too much to global warming and climate change. Transitioning worldwide to renewable clean energy is the only sensible alternative, and the technology is there. Now where's the political will?

The Coal Picture, in Animated Polka Dots!

Do you know of a good video or graphic connected with climate change? Do you have a cool "Every day is Earth Day" nature picture of yours you'd like to share with us? Put a weblink to it in the comments section below, and we'll see if we can post it.

Every day is Earth Day, folks, as I was reminded by this trio of trees a few weeks back. Making the U.S. a global clean energy leader will ensure a heck of a lot more jobs, and a clean, safe future. If you'd like to join the increasing numbers of people who want to TELL Congress that they will vote for clean energy candidates you can do so here. For more detailed summaries of the above and other climate change items, audio podcasts and texts are freely available.
