DKNY's Spring 2011 Runway show at New York Fashion Week delivered on what we imagine the colorful, fresh Spring look should be. Her runway show offered lean, sleek silhouettes, accessorized with colorful print scarves, lovely English-style floral prints and lots of cascading ruffles.

The emphasis was definitely on classics, with a twist of New York chic. The color palette was literally springing off the runway. There were some bright poppy/red dresses and tops, followed by gorgeous deep teal and blue dresses.

The bright colors, and comfortable tops were in many cases accented by a DKNY "heritage scarf" as you can see in the picture above. I love the addition of the scarf, because it takes the look up from just a jeans and tee look, to a look of everyday elegance.

The collection also featured short ruffled skirts, "full of frill." As you can see from the photo below of this striking teal ensemble, it works beautifully. The contrasting belt emphasizes the waist, and should give any woman a slim, flattering look.

The show also featured some amazing looking one shoulder swimsuits in the same striking teal, and some very elegant looking floral dresses with drop waists and high collars. It was a very versatile showing of looks. There was literally something for everyone whether you are going to work, out to either dinner or the beach. I'm looking forward to seeing these in stores. DKNY is always sold at Bloomingdale's and Macy's. The prices tags are reasonable, and the clothes are of good quality.

This posting is only a small sampling of what I saw on the runway today. There were also shirt dresses, peplum blazers, Georgette tees and Crepe dresses. Donna Karan was one of the first designers to understand that women wanted designer clothes of quality that were not thousands of dollars. To quote the designer, her goal is to "to design modern clothes for modern people." Today DKNY Spring 2011 delivered on her original concept of great clothing that is accessible and affordable to women everywhere.
