There have been so many important topics in the news this week -- Caitlyn Jenner, the Chicago Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup playoffs -- that many Illinoisans might have missed the details of one of state's most far-reaching stories this week. Gov. Bruce Rauner and House Speaker Michael Madigan continue to spar over spending and taxes and Illinoisans should pay attention.

Reboot Illinois' Madeleine Doubek explained how Illinoisans and the impact they can make on the state's leaders are just as important as these other trending news stories:

Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner says no tax increase without change. House Speaker Michael Madigan says no to change and we need a tax increase first and foremost. Blah, blah, blah, you're thinking to yourself, right? It's pointless, right? These guys will never grow up, get it and get it done, right?

I know that's what so many of us are thinking right now, but before you go back to more comments about Caitlyn Jenner or the real big event of the next few days -- the Chicago Blackhawks v. Tampa Bay Lightning -- stop for just a few more seconds and think about this: You have the power and Madigan and Rauner are willing to risk so very much to win you over.

What? No, really. Listen to me.

You have the power to stop the nonsense. This epic political war that's about to be waged is for your heart, your soul, your support.
