As I mentioned in my last post about the fantastic Tumblr blog Dear Class of 2012 by Yahoo News!, I love One Direction, I'm a Directioner, and I love Tumblr.
The special relationship between 1D (and Directioners) and Tumblr is like cookies and milk: they just go together so well. Tumblr has the greatest photos and animated GIFs ever of One Direction that we like and reblog like there's no tomorrow. From animated GIFs of concert footage from their recent Up All Night tour made by Directioners themselves to hilarious photos of the guys saying quotes from one of my fave movies ever Mean Girls, Tumblr keeps us entertained and updated on the latest news on our beloved British and Irish boy band members: Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan.
Then, there's the official One Direction Tumblr, which features the best photos and animated GIFs from their recent tour which are submitted by Directioners as well as photos from recent events, concerts, and photo shoots that the guys have done.
When Tumblr suggested to me the excellent idea of writing a post about their recent week devoted to One Direction on their Storyboard, it didn't take much for me to say yes!
So, here's my take on the awesome six posts that Tumblr's Storyboard did during their 1D week:
1. Meet the Directioners: The Superfans of One Direction (Video)
Directioners are crazy. It's true. As a Directioner myself, I can proudly say that it's because we love One Direction! They're not just another "cookie cutter boy band" and in our eyes, they're perfect. Seeing the custom T-shirts and really creative posters in this video took me back to when I saw 1D in concert in June in San Diego (the best night ever)!
This video shows what we do best: sing 1D songs, scream at the top of our lungs, jump, dance, Tumblr about 1D, and bust out everything that there is to know about our guys. As a few Directioners in the video mentioned, we would trek across the country on our feet and hands, we would give our kidneys to Liam (he has one working kidney), and we would cry and possibly have a heart attack if we ever meet them. Like I said, we're crazy. One Directioner summed it up well: "One Direction is life."
2. A Collection of Animated GIFs
If ever there was a collection of animated GIFs on Tumblr to accurately display what it's like to be a Directioner, this might be it. Start at the bottom and look at the ones of Niall and Harry performing (including one of Harry doing his now famous way of styling his hair, he's my fave!), then proceed to look at the ones above them of girls screaming, with hands over their faces, wearing custom posters and T-shirts, and jumping, dancing, and fainting. Yes, that's us.
3. Inside the Gleefully Obsessed World of One Direction Superfandom
Gleefully obsessed world is right! From pivotal dates in One Direction history to how 1D was formed (Thank you, The X-Factor and Simon Cowell!) to a list of 1D's many accomplishments (such as their album Up All Night debuting #1 in the U.S. and being the first British group ever to do that), this article is an overview of this gleefully obsessed world of ours. We really do analyze interviews with One Direction very closely and always know when and where photos of them were taken!
The article also discusses the last night of the Up All Night tour a.k.a. "the end." Another pivotal date in One Direction history. Tears were shed, videos were posted, letters and poems were written online, and, of course, animated GIFs were created. Cue the sad feels. But at least we have the guys' daily updates via Twitter, the Access 1D videos showing the guys' cutest and funniest moments from touring in the U.S.A., and a possible performance by them at the Olympics closing ceremonies (Yes, please!). Until the next tour...
4. So You Want to Be a Directioner: A Tumblr Starter Guide
This is so great! Everything you need to know to become a Directioner (or already know) is included in Tumblr's lovely starter guide. Who are the guys of 1D and who are they dating? Check. What's the difference between a Directioner and a Directionator? Check. What does Narnia refer to? Check. What are ships, feels, and OTPs? Check. Who is Larry Stylinson? Check. Why should you appreciate Harry Styles' collarbone? Check.
This article will get you on your way to becoming a true Directioner (and not a Directionator!) and since you're already on Tumblr when you read it, you'll already be at one of the most important places on the Internet to be at as a Directioner. So, get to studying and reblogging Directioner-in-training!
5. One Direction: Bandyland
Once you've studied up on everything 1D, how about playing a round of Bandyland? Tumblr created this awesome game to test you on your knowledge of Harry, Niall, Liam, Louis, and Zayn. Choose your fave member and make it from Narnia to the U.K. by answering questions about the guys. Once you've made it to the U.K., you'll be an ultimate Directioner!
6. One Direction: The Tumblr Interview
The post that every Directioner following 1D week on Tumblr's Storyboard had been anticipating! Executive Editor of Tumblr Jessica Bennett (who spearheaded and contributed to 1D week) did a great interview with Harry, Niall, Liam, Louis, and Zayn. From being really popular on Tumblr (there are close to 500,000 Tumblr blogs devoted to 1D!) to dealing with fame and being chased by girls around the world to Louis and Harry's honest opinions on "Larry," this is an interview that every Directioner should read.
So, thank you very much Tumblr for recognizing the special relationship between Directioners and Tumblr and for devoting a week on the Storyboard to the most famous boy band in the world right now.
