Check out GoTourIt. They have some fun self-guided tours that you can take. Some tours are free and some are paid. The tours are like self-guided tours you take in a museum except they have city tours and park tours. I really enjoyed the San Francisco tours.

How about the Truphone app for iPhone?

Mobile VoIP provider, Truphone, enables free to low-cost mobile calling over available Wi-Fi or local wireless networks for owners of dual-mode handsets who are traveling away from their home service areas. Truphone uses the Internet to send and receive phone calls & is especially advantageous for international travelers who want to make inexpensive calls from their mobile phones wherever in the world they may be– without the uncertainty of expensive roaming charges. Users aren’t bound by costly, limited-choice wireless connections when they want to use their mobile phones while traveling internationally; Truphone always finds a cheaper alternative. Truphone became the first true Internet calling application in Apple’s App Store when the company introduced Truphone for the iPhone and the iPod touch, as well as for RIM’s BlackBerry devices.

I'm only familiar with one of these apps but will take a look at the rest. I use an app called NeuroMobile when I travel. It's great for confirmation numbers and recalling information about the city you're visiting. It's a general purpose app so I use it for lots of stuff. You may want to include it in your next review.
