Whether you're worried about the signs of aging, or just want to regain a little self-confidence, plastic surgery can be the solution you're looking for. But if you're new to plastic surgery and are concerned about ending up looking like a Cat Lady, there are ways to mitigate the chances of bad surgery. Before you go under the knife, make sure you do these 3 things:

Do Your Research
Before you speak with a surgeon, make sure to do your research on the procedure you feel would be best for your desired outcome. Make sure to be as well informed as you can, and avoid making assumptions on which procedure will be best for you based on myths and misconceptions. In addition, make sure to research your potential surgeon ahead of time, and ask as many questions as you can, as Dr. Richard Zouamalan, a board certified plastic surgeon who operates in Los Angeles, explains. "It's essential that patients do research on doctors and their desired procedure, but is even more important to know which information is actually accurate."

If for any reason you feel uncomfortable with your surgeon's recommendations, there's nothing wrong with getting a second opinion or holding off until you've found a surgeon you're comfortable with. Take your time and don't rush into anything you feel isn't necessary. Remember that this a procedure on your body that may lead to problems if done incorrectly, so do what's best for your body and go slowly.

Prepare Your Body

Once you've set a date for your plastic surgery, begin a preoperative regimen to make sure your body is able to handle the trauma of surgery and recover quickly. Ask your surgeon for recommendations on any supplements to take beforehand and research if you'll need to remove multivitamins from your daily intake or not (as some may thin the blood). Be sure to keep your diet clean and drink water in the weeks before your surgery to ensure your body has the nutrients it needs to aid in a speedy recovery.

Prepare Your Schedule
While plastic surgery is becoming more common in our society, it is still a surgical procedure and your body will need time to recover. Make sure that the time after the surgery will be free from things that can impede your ability to rest and recuperate. Plan time off from work, load up your home with groceries, and clear your schedule of any appointments that may need you to leave the home while still in recovery. Remember to take it easy and be kind to your body while it's healing.

Remember to be intentional with your plastic surgery goals and don't feel like you need any additional procedures that you're not completely comfortable with. Whether you're thinking about something small like a mole removal, or a far more complex surgery like liposuction, plastic surgery can help you achieve more self-confidence and can be barely noticeable if done well. If you're thinking about having a little work done, following the three steps above will make sure you achieve the look you want safely and quickly.
