Jill Kargman's 'Rocking' Bash for Her Latest Novel

Fans of Jill Kargman's books -- from The Right Address to Momzillas to The Ex-Mrs. Hedgefund -- enjoy her trademark humor and her knack for satirizing certain New York cliques that the city native knows all too well. Accordingly, there is often a guessing game as to who some of her characters might be based on.

Her latest effort, The Rock Star in Seat 3A, is a slight departure from that format -- less expose, more old-fashioned Cinderella story. The protagonist is (but of course) a New Yorker, named Hazel, who seemingly has it all -- the perfect job, apartment, and boyfriend -- until she boards a flight to L.A., is bumped to first class, and is by chance seated next to her all-time rock star crush. A real attraction develops; she is forced to reevaluate much of her life, and... well, you'll have to read the book to find out the rest. But it is an adventure and romance made all the more enjoyable by Kargman's signature wit and sharp ear for dialogue.

On Tuesday, Kargman and Joss & Main -- a members-only online lifestyle shopping site -- hosted a book party at NYC nightclub Lavo. In keeping with the theme, the requisite rock music (quite a few Beastie Boys anthems) played for the duration of the fete, and friends such as Lizzie Tisch, Simon Doonan, Julie Macklowe, newest "Real Housewife" Aviva Drescher, Dori Cooperman, and Marisa Noel Brown sipped champagne under the bright lights whilst waiting patiently in the long line for Kargman to sign copies of her book.

Once I had finally reached the front of the line, I asked the best-selling novelist what inspired her to go in this slightly different direction. "I have long had this massive crush on Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails," the Valentino-clad author confessed. "He's the inspiration for the rock star character in the book."
