Montenegro & Other Places To Go This Summer (PHOTOS, POLL)

What's Your Reaction:

For many, summer is the season of wanderlust. Kids are out of school. Parents remember the feeling of being barefoot explorers from their own days of summer break. It seems even more pronounced this year, maybe because last year many stayed closer to home and that has made some restless. Whatever the reason, these days I am asked regularly where to go this summer. Here is my short list.

Where I Just Went: Montenegro.

While the rest of Mediterranean is packed, this country, which only achieved independence in 2006, remains peaceful and sublimely quiet. Yachtsmen have discovered the wonders of Montenegro's crystal clear waters and 3,000 kilometers of almost virgin coastline, which is backed by the dramatic black mountains that give the country its name. In fact, some of the world's choosiest travelers, among them Lord Jacob Rothschild and Bernard Arnault, believe that this is such a jewel that they have invested in the new Porto Montenegro. Whether you come by yacht or stay on land, this is now one of the chicest places on the Med. And with a new Amanresort just opened it will not be undiscovered for long.
