I have worn glasses since 7th grade, but now I see the world through new lenses:
well-being, wisdom, wonder, and giving. These are the four pillars to redefine success and live a more joyful life in Arianna Huffington's book, Thrive.
Last week I completed Arianna's 6-week Thrive class on the OWN network. The cost was only $49 - a clear example that value and price are rarely equivalent. Though the course was on-line, students of all ages, careers and nationalities were united in our search to balance family and professional responsibilities with personal health and fulfillment.
Classmates stayed up in time zones ranging from Thailand to Texas to bring their questions to Arianna each Thursday night during her call-in office hours. She shared her advice candidly and generously.
I was so touched not only by her wisdom, but also by how much she genuinely wants to encourage everyone to lead a more healthy and happy life that I turned her teachings into a song. I wanted to celebrate her message and thank her for the great gift she has shared. Arianna encouraged us to pause and take in the wonder that surrounds us in our daily life, and the images in this video were mostly collected during my 6 weeks in her class.
Here are the lyrics:
Says, "Do you wanna
Learn how to thrive?
I will guide you.
Let's redefine success
And turn all our stress
I'm beside you.
There is a wonderful new way of living
With wonder, wisdom well being and giving.
Put on your oxygen mask.
And if somebody asks
You can say no.
Thrive tribes connect.
Obnoxious roommates eject.
Perfection let go.
Live your life like it's rigged in your favor.
Turn off your device, the moment you'll savor."
I just wanna
Thank you for all
You have given.
Now I am breathing deep
And getting lots of sleep
Because what I seek
You have written.
You've helped us balance our hard working drive.
You've helped us flourish and not just survive.
You've helped us feel so much more alive.
From Australia to Texas
You've helped connect us and thrive!
For helping me thrive.
These are a few of my favorite take away comments from Arianna's office hours:
1) Life is a dance between making it happen and letting it happen.
2) I have not been in love for years, yet I fall in love every day- with the smile of a baby, the beauty of a flower. A lover is just an external object, but we can chose to feel an abundance of giving and receiving love every day.
3) No judgements.
4) Happiness is 10% what actually happens and 90% how we interpret it.
5) I am 64. It is never to late to start.
6) Look to the hidden blessing in every disappointment.
Thank you, Arianna for sharing your message and heart and inspiring us all to Thrive.
