Obama: Reopen the 9/11 Investigation -- Part 1

Patrick Leahy has a point when he urges President Obama to open investigations about the Bush administration. However, he's not pointing at the issue that we need to start with. Namely, September 11th. What really happened? More than a few people know - and I am not alone in calling for those who know to start talking and fess up. Let's not let this go the way of the JFK assassination - and whether with subpoenas or on their own volition, I demand that Dick Cheney, George W. Bush - both of whom refused to testify under oath during the 9/11 Commission proceedings -- Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice, Karl Rove, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Armitage, Larry Wilkerson, George Tenet, Robert Mueller and the rest - as well as Bill Clinton and Al Gore (both of whom also refused to testify under oath) -- start talking, and in a public arena. And I'm calling on the Obama administration to open up a probe and unravel the web of deceit.

Before we tuck the Bush administration into bed and hiss, "Nighty Night, you lying scoundrels," before we go on to lock the door on that heinous era of American history, we do indeed need to probe what happened under their watch. But the event that most concerns me is what happened on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. Oh yeah, that's history, old news, the 9/11 Commission figured it all out, right? Except that members of the 9/11 Commission say it was "set up to fail" and that the investigation was severely hampered. So do assorted former members of the CIA, who demand a fresh look at the events of that day.

So, President Obama - leader of a new era in the United State - serve your people: pull out that can opener and pry open that can of worms.

In following posts, I will outline some of the most mysterious coincidences and events that deserve re-examination - and there are many, including how strange things happen whenever Dick Cheney's around and the missile defense program is slated to be cut as I note here and here. But let's start with the premise that all was not told, and we deserve to know the truth about this catastrophic event that so changed the world -- and boosted the military budget to new highs.

While the Obama administration is fresh - and even though we're all grappling with this economy - I urge Americans to demand that this be a top priority, and not to let Obama shrug off this "mystery" that was cloaked by his predecessor.

One thing the Obama administration could do is release those surveillance tapes of the Pentagon when it was hit that were confiscated and hidden away, "out of respect for the families of those who perished". If they haven't been destroyed.

If they show a commercial plane hitting the Pentagon instead of a missile, they will partially support the government's story about that day. This wouldn't take "witnesses" or research or anything else. Just a release of the tapes.

If they show a missile hitting the Pentagon as the truthers claim, then arrests need to be made and everything else needs to be opened up again. No exceptions.

Thanks for taking on what is still an important issue. There are a lot of implausible conspiracy theories out there and plenty of idiots to promote them, so it's difficult to sort through the BS and get a balanced look at what really happened on 9/11. However, there is enough evidence out there to demolish the official myth and provide the basis for a new investigation as you have suggested. As for our gatekeeper friend who actually dismissed anyone questioning the JFK assassination or USS Liberty incident, you need to do some more research. I would recommend reading "Breach of Trust: How the Warren Commission Failed the Nation and Why" by my former professor Gerald McKnight. Having read Dr. McKnight's book and taken his class on the subject, I can tell you with certainty that there are plenty of reasons to question the official account. As for the USS Liberty, there is no reason to investigate. The NSA and military intelligence long ago came to the conclusion that the Israelis intentionally attacked the ship based on the actual intercepts of their communications. James Bamford clearly shows this in "Body of Secrets," and other sources have covered it as well. Believing that nothing is a conspiracy and dismissing "conspiracy theory" on its face is as stupid as believing that everything is a conspiracy.

My impression was that the 9/11 Commission Report was a lame attempt at appeasing any/all involved. I felt that it blamed "everyone" AND blamed "no one" for what transpired.[IMO]

[a] I'm STILL waiting for an adequate explanation of WHY WTC Building 7, a building that was NOT hit by a plane, went down..! The building was reduced to rubble on 9/11/01. According to the government, it was "primarily" brought down by FIRES (with "some" damage from debris); but fires have never before, or since, destroyed a steel skyscraper.

Why did the government "disappear" the evidence [ie. the steel] of this great crime...? [I think a bulk of it went to China]

[b] I'm STILL waiting for the Dubya Admin to give an in-depth explanation for their long delay in forming the 9/11Commission. The commission convened on November 26, 2002 (441 DAYS after the attack) and their final report was issued on July 22, 2004. [nearly 3 years after 9/11?]

Yes, please, publish the names and background of the people who made millions from stock market put options as a result of 9-11. They made money from betting that certain stocks would drop, i.e. American Airlines, United Airlines. Insider trading is the least of their crimes.

The Omission Commission didn't ask real questions of any of these people, and many other "persons of interest"- and they ignored dozens of whistleblowers, like FBI Sibel Edmonds, Robert Wright, Coleen Rowley, Behrooz Sarshar, etc.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I was thanking Ms. Rossi for having the courage to publicly ask questions about 9/11. Alot of times people will ridicule you just for doing that & that is what I meant about opening herself to ridicule. The Huffington Post is mainstream & as far as I know, this is the first time they have published anything questioning the inconsistencies of the official story. That should be commended.
