Melissa, I am saddened to see that you have gone down the 9/11 conspiracy road. These “questions” that you claim don’t have any answers to have been answered numerous times. For example, you link to a 2002 article which in it contains the claim that Flight 93 passenger Edward Felt mentioned during a phone call with a dispatcher that he heard an explosion on board and saw white smoke. I could go on but there are not enough hours in the day to play a game of whac-a-mole with 9/11 conspiracy theorists.

I agree, Melissa, we need a new 9/11 investigation. If we're going to have a War on Terror we need to know who the real terrorists are, how they operate, who funds them, who covers up for them and why. Who profits from terror as a strategy? What role has "false flag terrorism" historically played in setting aggressive policy?

We also need answers to basic questions about what happened on 9/11/01. One 47 story steel framed building not hit by a plane fell straight down in a matter of seconds -- just like a controlled demolition. It took the National Institute of Standards and Technology seven years to produce a 10,000 page report that did not employ the most obvious explanation: explosives. This building was home to offices off the CIA, the Secret Service, Mayor Giuliani's OEM, the SEC (Enron records) and several banks. It would be laughable if it weren't such a serious matter. Similarly, the black box allegedly found inside the Pentagon shows data that contradicts the events that are said to have occurred there -- as, indeed, do numerous eyewitnesses interviewed and recorded by researchers. Clearly, we do not know the whole truth about 9/11.

I wish you didn't write this article, Melissa. I received your book on the middle east from the Quarterly Paperback Book Club and am enjoying reading it. Up to now, I was under the impression that I would be correctly informed as to the situation there. However, your hitching on to "9/11 Truthing" makes me skeptical of your other work. This Huff Posting is just a mumbling of vague conspiracy ideas, not worthy of a serious journalist. It is obvious that there is nothing solid here. Do you also want the government to have another investigation of the JFK assassination, flying saucer sightings, US. Liberty attack, etc, etc?

Who needs an investigation? Those who need to understand what really happened. And there are too many people who have investigated it by themselves. There are foreign countries that have investigated 9/11 more openly than we have. Some of the best written material and some of the best films are put out by Europeans who can see us from a distance. We can't see ourselves clearly. We can only see that Bush needs us to not care.

An examination of the events that led up to 9/11 would indeed be welcome, and always will. I am saddened, however, to see the reasons that Ms. Rossi uses to call for the investigation. The comments show that this is quickly becoming the haven of many 9/11 conspiracy theorists, eagerly promoting their own websites full of silliness and deception.

I ask my fellow Democrats and progressives to look more closely at the kind of investigations that have already been done into many of these questions. Plenty has already been revealed, things the conspiracy theorists would not have you know.

For example, the identities of the hijackers are beyond question, Ms. Rossi. They left such a clear and unambiguous trail before boarding the planes, it's a scandal that they weren't discovered before then. Investigate why that was, but we know who the hijackers were.

The FDR information from 93 has been released and all systems were normal when the plane crashed. The only thing unusual about the plane was its speed, orientation, and trajectory.

The wargames were standard ones regularly scheduled for the time of year, and they contributed to the response time of the military (for what that was worth). In fact, the only major violations of procedure was to increase response time. Investigate why they came up with different stories before the NORAD tapes were used to find the truth, but why those planes couldn't be intercepted is beyond question.

Thank God, Melissa has the courage to speak. Obviously I fear her requests will fall on deaf ears. Obama works for the same groups that Bush and Cheney work for. The whole left/right paradigm only serves to divide and delude the lowly voters. One week they're shouting and screaming "BUSH!" The next they're swooning for "OBAMA!" It makes me sick.

You can even leave the entire "controlled demolition" theory at the house. It's not necessary. There are so many other inconsistencies surrounding 9/11 that it boggles the mind. I doubt that any one person can fully list every point that has surfaced, not even the most studious of 9/11 truthers. There's just too much information for any one mind to comprehend. This all speaks to some sort of massive conspiracy, even if it's only a cabal to cover up incompetence.

Again I say - you can leave out the buildings falling down, leave out the hole in the Pentagon. I know most people can't wrap their heads around those things. Okay. Fair enough. But there are a thousand other things that need to be questioned by authority. Instead of pinning medals on the breasts of the incredibly irresponsible, there should have been a massive criminal investigation. Massive. It was the biggest crime ever committed in New York's history. To allow only the Executive Branch to use sub-committees to look into such a massive crime in New York city - that's insane.

What hit it? Where is it? What's going on?"

It is obvious to anyone, who cares enough to look at the photos and video, taken after the explosion at the Pentagon, that the hole in the wall could not have occurred as a result of a plane crash. The hole was too small and there was no trace of a plane. The official government line, was that the plane disintegrated, but they were still able to identify the bodies. The nearly 100 'security camera' videos taken that day were seized by government agents, almost immediately after the explosion, and they refuse to release them. Inexplicably flight #93, that allegedly went down in Pennsylvania, also vanished. There is no evidence that any of the 19 alleged hijackers, bought a ticket for any of those flights. We deserve answers.
