BayFest 2012 is upon us this weekend! Featuring musical acts of just about every genre imaginable on seven different stages in downtown Mobile from Friday, October 5th through Sunday, October 7th, BayFest offers up something for everyone. The thing I love about this music festival is that it is an annual nonprofit event that has been successfully operating for over a decade. Firmly established in the ranks with all the music festivals that have become the norm among artists, on any given day of the festival, hundreds of thousands of people swarm historic downtown Mobile to soak in the atmosphere, listen to great music and have a good time.

Organized by over a thousand volunteers, it provides concert-goers the opportunity to see big-name artists at an affordable price they wouldn't normally get to see. Artists such as Charlie Wilson, Loverboy, Pat Benatar, Journey, Al Green, Willie Nelson, Bush, Tank, Mimosa, Pretty Lights and Mary Mary will headline the festival this year. It also adds a flavor of the region with jazz and gospel stages for those who want a break from rock-n-roll, country and R&B.

In addition to the music, BayFest offers up something unique with its 5th Annual Music Industry Education and Scholarship Program, allowing aspiring musical talent the opportunity to learn about the music industry from the inside-out from professional musicians. Located on the Alabama Gulf Coast, right in the heart of the Mobile waterfront and down the street from the bars and restaurants on downtown Dauphin Street, if you're looking for something to do this weekend and want to support a great cause, I highly recommend it. It's a perfect weekend destination for music fanatics who don't want to roll around in the mud in the middle of nowhere.
