Fox News just announced that Glenn Beck will leave his program on the network by the end of this year.

It's encouraging to know that it is no longer economically viable for a major television network to support the demagogic rantings of its most unhinged conspiracy theorist.

This should come as a relief to the GOP leaders who came to understand that Glenn Beck was becoming more of a hindrance than a help. Voters are getting tired of the reckless extremism of the GOP, and Beck was one of the party's most clownish ideologues. Unfortunately for them and for us, the paranoid, truth-be-damned agenda he brought to prominence has taken root in the Republican Party. Speaker Boehner's helplessness to rein in his caucus's desire for a government shutdown is just the latest example of how in the modern GOP, the inmates have taken over the asylum.
