Halle Berry Said "JEWISH!" Is She out of her Half-Black Mind?!

stumbleupon :Halle Berry Said "JEWISH!" Is She out of her Half-Black Mind?!   digg: Halle Berry Said "JEWISH!" Is She out of her Half-Black Mind?!   reddit: Halle Berry Said "JEWISH!" Is She out of her Half-Black Mind?!   del.icio.us: Halle Berry Said "JEWISH!" Is She out of her Half-Black Mind?!

"If you watch the clip, you can see Halle saying the word Jewish....[she] should be ashamed of herself!"

I'm not sure who is a bigger douche, the Leno audience member who said that, or Richard Johnson, who quoted her on Page Six, under the headline, "Berry Nose Better Than That." Are we really such a nation of pussies now? Someone says the word Jewish and we call 9-1-1? Excuse me, but my tribe has been run down by every small-dick thug since cro-magnon had his first bar mitvah. Halle Berry didn't urinate on a Torah. She made a joke and it was funny (and in this business, you don't cut funny).

If you didn't see it, she was showing distorted images from her computer camera and one made her look like she had a big nose, so she said "This one makes me look like my Jewish cousin." See? It's kinda funny. At the very least, it's cute. Laugh a little, folks. Lotsa jews have big noses, as do Italians, Arabs, Armenians, and a whole buncha other people. And big noses can be beautiful and they can also be funny (Jimmy Durante's nickname was Schnozzola). And Halle Berry, with her perfectly gorgeous nose, is funny with a big nose. Her Jewish assistant who first made the joke thought so. And on behalf of the rest of the thick-skinned Jews out there, I think so too.

You know, I was talking about this with my black friend today. Wait...can I say black? Sorry, my African-American friend. Actually, he's not African. Okay, my Jamaican-American friend. Does that make him African-Jamaican-American? Are Jamaicans from Africa? He's Catholic, too. Come to think of it, he kind of has a big nose. In fact, if he were white he might even look Jewish. Did you know Ethiopia has a lot of Jews? They have small noses. You've seen them before, the small-nose-African-American-Jewish-types? They don't look anything like my Jewish cousins. In fact, they probably look more like Halle's gentile-black-African-American-gorgeous-movie-star-cousins. Wait...can I say movie star?

I'm confused. I thought Halle Berry was 50% black and 50% Jewish. Would this have been an issue if she were 50% Italian and 50% Jewish?

This ridiculous argument concerning who should be called what with regard to race, ethnicity, etc. brings up a point that I would like to make. If, after a dozen descriptions for describing or introducing Negroes over the years, we are pretty much now obligated to use the term African American. This, of course, is supposed to be the description of anyone who might ordinarily have been described as Black before Afican American came along.

Since not all Black persons did not originate in any manner in Africa or have any connection what so ever to the continent it is rediculous to use the term indiscriminately. If it is proper to be forced to introduce every person formerly regarded as Negro as African American then every caucasian individual should hereafter be introduced as European American. It makes perfect sense.

If blacks are to be labelled African Americans, should whites be labelled European Americans?

For years now I've heard news talk show hosts, entertainment talk show hosts and a time or two even a network anchor say, "It's like the pot calling the kettle black." I am of African ancestry and am amazed that these stars have not heard that it is fine to be black. So the pot cannot use pigmentation to insult the kettle. A few months, perhaps a year ago, I heard a news talk show host refer to "tar baby". Others must have heard these terms used also or, even more likely, heard them and they meant nothing so they did not command your attention.

They do not offend me. Apparently, Jesse and Al feel the same way since I have not seen either of them picketing anyone.

The expression has nothing to do with "pigmentation". It has to do with the color that pots and kettles turn when you cook with them over an open flame. They all turn black with soot. They all look the same way. Hence, if the "pot" calls the "kettle" black, it means one person (the "pot" is too busy pointing fingers at the other guy (the "kettle") to notice he/she is guilty of the same thing.

Incidentally, I'm Jewish and though Halle's joke was funny.

I'm an Irish-American. It's 2 p.m. and I'm just getting into my second 12-pack of the day. I don't see anything wrong with what Halle Berry said.

As a blonde Swedish American, I love blonde jokes and Swedish joke, which could be interchangeable since they are both about being dumb. As Foghorn Leghorn used to say,"It's a joke son; you're built too low, it went over your head."

I'm Jewish and while not personally offended, it was a stupid comment which only reinforces century old stereotypes often used to victimize Jews. If a white performer showed pictures of him/her eating watermelon and said that was my "black " side, I'm sure Al and Jesse would be demanding an apology and or boycott.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:36 AM on 10/24/2007

But that would be wrong too.

And just because a stereotype is "often" used to victimize a minority group (and how often is often these days?) doesn't mean that it always is and should always be condemned as such.

I agree that Halle Berry's remark was stupid, but the reaction is even stupider.

Many Jews are attributed with an aura of being smarter than most but Moses certainly does not fit into that catagory he led the Jews around the desert for 40 years and finally settled in the only place in the Middle East with no oil!!Oy Veh.

i agree with paixa3 and onebadape.

Once the media gets the public to define something, they then distort it to suit their agenda. And we buy it.

When MSM makes a big deal about any Anti- anything comment- wait for the punchline.

There is something that they want us all to agree on, based on the false premise of the meaning of a phrase (like: "patriotic" turning into "support Bush"(personally-as opposed to America, the country and people))

My suspicion is that when the machine is pushing ‘That’s anti-semitic!’ at us, we are about to be asked to unquestioningly support some war effort of Israel. Which has less to do with individuals who are of the jewish faith (or people with big noses) than it has to do with an agenda which has yet to be made clear to the American public.

Hey- support may or may not be warranted, it is the ‘unquestioning’ part I object to.

Like I said before, word control IS brainwashing.

Wake up to the propaganda machine.

And by the way, this applies to OBL, or ‘he must not be named’.
Who is he? Voldemort? Bloody Mary?

Osama Bin Laden Osama Bin Laden Osama Bin Laden.

Nothing happened. Still here.

And WHY, by the way, are we Americans not allowed to hear/see his propaganda, to decide for ourselves? It is a scary thought- that the government might think that too many Americans would agree with him? The excuse of ‘national security’ (control phrase alert!) is ridiculous (or at the very least, I challenge it). If the people who follow him have access to what he is saying, we should be aware of what they are hearing.

Anything referring to ‘race’ is propaganda designed to turn us against ourselves. Divide and conquor.

Hardly ‘We, the people, in order to form a more perfect union….’

Having lived in Germany for the first 17 years of my life including six years under Hitler, I think Halle Bery's comment was stupid.
Although I still even now, at age 86, don't have a big nose, in school in the 1930's I was always called in front of the class in Race Relations when the Nazi teacher explained to the class that eventually my nose would grow like those of all the Jews.
He showed caricatures of Jewish people with big noses and German newspapers were full with those caricatures, just like some Arab newspapers are now.

There have been a lot of anti Jewish posts on this blog. Mostly on the unregulated "news side". Clearly the left harbors a great deal of very prejudiced people.

I sort of wonder what this, "it's ok to make Jew Jokes" post is all about. I understand the stated meaning...Jews can take a joke. But when you post that up against the anti Jewish rantings of the radical fringe, don't you risk the failures of appeasement? Jews tried to appease Hitler too. I think in the minds of those who promote anti-Jewish racism, and use Israel as cover for said racism....this kind of, we can take it post just indicates weakness, not strength and opposition to said racism.

No there have not been a lot of anti-Jewish posts on this blog. What are you reading?

"Clearly the left harbors a great deal of very prejudiced people"

This makes no sense in any universe. Clearly, you want to demonize the left.

Steve MAY be trying to demonize the left, as there are plenty of anti-Semites on the right, as well (The names Coulter and O'Reilly leap to mind)

But, if you haven't seen a lot of anti-Jewish comments, it's because you don't WANT to see them

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:37 PM on 10/24/2007

Here's what it comes down to, with the "lot of anti-Jewish posts":

These people are not anti-Semitic. More than merely "progressive", they're Americans. Raised in an age when you DID question authority, with cliches like, "... but I'll defend to the death your right to say it!"

Today AIPAC reps the interests of the most extreme, militaristic factions of Israeli and American power players. Go ahead... TRY being a lawmaker, and critiquing any aspect of Israeli militarism. You'll be back selling insurance in Peoria by next week.

But to the average rank-and-file American, it is quite the insult to be told, "You said a discouraging word about the positions repped by AIPAC, and therefore you are a hater and a bigot!" ("... I'm WHAT?!?"). Academics, political writers, bloggers, etc., are admittedly becoming more incensed, as the right wing noise machine calls them "unpatriotic"... or "anti-Semitic".

An American brought up free to exercise "free speech" is not going to take kindly to a meat axe, slamming down on him or her as he or she debates, speculates and discusses stuff. It goes against the grain of WHO WE ARE.

But it is a marvelous indicator, in the case of AIPAC, of WHO THEY ARE.

All AIPAC ever had to do was to use a carrot instead of a stick; a series of touchy-feely TV spots, perhaps, showing an female Israeli soldier, reading a love letter from her husband, and shedding a single tear over a picture of their baby (ad agencies can produce this dreck in their sleep!).

But that's the point: AIPAC does not do touchy-feely. This is WHO THEY ARE... over There, they're not lobbyists in suits. They wear fatigues, and blow their enemies' shit away, nonchalantly. They're really gonna come over here, establish a "lobby" for the purpose of totally driving and dominating American policy... and play nice?

(Or, operate less dangerous and totalitarian than you are willing to accept and believe?)

AIPAC has a membership of 500 and BRAGS about having the support of "nearly 3,000" American Jews

That's less than 1/20 of one per cent of the American Jewish population

I neither know nor care to what religious/etnic/racial group you belong, but I'll bet that if I were to hold your entire group responsible for the actions of 1/20th of one per cent, you'd call me a bigot... And you'd be RIGHT!

Explain to me why Jews should be held to a different standard

I have total Jew envy. So many of the coolest people in the arts - all the arts- are Jewish.
I mean, from Lenny Bruce to Jerry Lewis, to Mel Brooks, to Isaac Asimov to Josseph Heller to.. on and on and on! Irving Berlin for Christ's sake. Jews invented Hollywood...
I met a writer from Hollywood and we could not stop talking politics and movies, he was brill.
Then it struck me, I said "Are you Jewish?"
He said "yes"
I said "Awww man..." He thought I was diapointed that he was a Jew.
I said "All the cool people are Jewish, Why can't I be Jewish?" He said I could convert, but it's not the same, you have to grow up Jewish. None of my Jewish friends would have blinked an eye at Ms. Berry's "joke"

I have that too. When I was young in South Florida, living as a child of divorce and poor when people just did NOT get divorced much, most of my best friends were transplanted New York Jews. The WASPs treated me with disdain, but the Jews were fine with me, and were MUCH more interesting anyway, IMHO.

Better senses of humor, more witty, less repressed, just generally a lot more fun. I have fond memories.

If the "zionists" control so much, why has there never been Jewish president?

If "zionism" was about establishing a jewish homeland inside the united states, your question might actually have relevance.

If "zionism" was about anti-defamation, your question might actually have a point.

I AM NOT a paranoid, "zionists control everything" type, but that doesn't change the political realities of the last sixty years (as it applies to the US anyway), or that you have conflated being Jewish with being a zionist.

"Zionism" is a political agenda with a set of goals, and zionists debate and determine those goals.

The question you should be asking is, "If zionists control so much, why have (all, any, some) US presidents stood in such steadfast opposition to (all of, part of, one aspect of)their political agenda?"

Can't ask that question with a straight face, can you?

So then why would "zionists" feel the need to have a Jewish president, if they have gotten unfailing support for their political agenda from every US president since WWII?
