Pelosi-09.jpg Rahm-Axelrod-09.jpg

"She has been queen of her castle for quite a while now and the face of the Democratic Party, and I think she is going to want to continue to be at least the co-face as much as possible," said one longtime senior Congressional official who did not want to be identified talking about the speaker's outlook. -- from: "Speaker Makes Room for New No. 1 Democrat," (NYT)

With the country in a shambles, the media wouldn't want the Democrats getting off to a rocky start, would it?

One has to wonder, though, the way the NYT stacked these images yesterday in a preview article speculating how Speaker Pelosi (who, the write-up deems to point out, "has relished being in command") will get along with President Obama. The caption reads:

Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she is thrilled to be working with a fellow Democrat in the White House. But adjustments are inevitable. Rahm Emanuel, Mr. Obama's chief of staff, with David Axelrod, left, Mr. Obama's senior advisor.

That last sentence probably should probably have continued: "... looking pissed off at Pelosi, even though the two pictures have nothing to do with each other." (The bottom photo was actually taken 2 weeks ago, at an Obama press conference in Chicago.)

What is the scariest phrase for a cable news producer or print news editor these days? "No Drama Obama". No drama means no $$$$$. As Hearst said to Frederick Remington: "Supply me the pictures and I will supply the War."

I gotta say, I'm feeling pretty done with Nancy Pelosi. It seems though we're stuck with her--let's hope she shapes up.

I assume that some of those training camps of young right wingers has churned some out into careers as headline writers and photo caption writers, with the idea that's the most most people read.
The AP is particularly bad with biased headlines.
(Just something to keep in mind if you are a young person thinking about a career in which you can make a big difference.) Of course, whoever hires and/or pus up with these biased writers is the real problem.

At least they didn't accuse her of having an affair with a lobbyist, plaster it on the front page, and provide no evidence.

Compared to the rest of the media campaign to tie Obama's and the Dems hands, this is mild.

If I hear one more Republican or "expert" pundit complaining about the proposed stimulus package as too expensive, I'll have to get my pitchfork out of the barn.

Bush spent a TRILLION of BORROWED money every 1.38 years of his presidency without a squeak from the GOP or the media.

For another example of the double standards, watch Cuomo's interview of Barney Frank on ABC this morning where he blames Congress for what the Bushies are doing...

... or take The McGlaughlin Group last week where the overdressed host insisted that the "media begin giving Obama the scrutiny they gave Bush"... as if Bush's actions were scrutinized or ANYONE in his admin was held accountable.

The hypocrisy is astounding.

Precisely.

"The hypocrisy is astounding."

You are right. You have seen it and it is you. The love affair the media had with Obama is over. He won, get it? Now he has to perform, or have you democrats forgotten how that is done. And now you will get the daily, if not hourly, scrutiny Bush got. Enjoy.
