Reading The Pictures: The 1040 Payload

Credit to Christoph Niemann and The New Yorker for this April 9th cover. Using tax season as the springboard, the artist scores a direct hit on perhaps the most incongruous and widely ignored attribute of this insane war.

It's only lately -- and quietly -- the funding issue has even made a blip on the radar screen in spite of the widespread opposition to the war.

The administration succeeds in its madness through the tactic of abstraction, making war funding seem more like a paper game. Strange it's left to the illustrator to emphasize the link that we're the ones shelling out for the hardware.
