Chinese Hacker Challenge: Shut down Westboro Baptist Church

BEIJING: Chinese hackers have gotten pretty good the past few years at disrupting things. I'm generally not in favor of encouraging hacker mayhem, but this case it a bit different. Let's see if they can shut down Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas. And if you happen to be in Topeka, I suggest going over there and protesting against this stupidity (along with the vast amount of stupidity WBC has encouraged in the past). And if that doesn't work, a lawsuit might.

50,000? 100,000? How many dead people does it take before WBC's apocalyptic bloodlust is satisfied? Idiots.

If anyone at WBC or anyone else for that matter, wants to do something constructive to help the victims of the Sichuan earthquake, check in at CNReviews for a very good compilation of information on how to donate to the recovery efforts. China Crossroads also has some information on orphanage assistance.

And lastly, a big hat tip to Opposite End of China, where I noticed this item. For those who've never heard of Xinjiang, I'd suggest visiting as it's the best blog in English on that part of China.

I'm rooting for the Chinese hackers! And while you're at it, have a go at Ann Coulter's site, Rush Limbaugh's site--they're basically spouting the same shit as the Phelps klan!

Phelps is merely a parody of Wright, another "Christian".

The answer to this is not to revoke our free-speech laws but to end the unconstitutional "free-lunch" that religious organizations alike enjoy.

He forgot the "the LORD shall have them in derision" part.
They are not even on book anymore. Hatred and bile are his gods.
These guys are far more dangerous than any terrorist group!

The Phelps family is a national embarrassment, although thankfully not on the scale or with the assets of the Bush family. My favorite escapade of theirs was when they were literally chased out of a town by an angry mob a couple of years ago.

This sounds like a McCain endorsement just waiting to happen. Double down the bet on Pastor Hagee! America, fear the "Heathen Chinee"!

Sheeesh!

Almost makes you wish that the framers hadn't been so insistent about free speech. What' s amazing is that there are people in America who get up on Sunday mornings to go hear this hateful ass rant.

Phelps and his minions are simply taking some important elements of orthodox Christian theology to their logical conclusion. The entire complex of Abrahamic religions is essentially fruit of the poisoned tree. When you start worshipping gods who make patently unreasonable demands, trouble is sure to follow. (I suppose that will be a cue for "progressive" practitioners of the "Christian equals good person" fallacy to insist that Phelps, et al., can't be a "true Christian".)

Good people make good Christians (or Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Pagans, Atheists...) Fred Phelps and his psychotic little band of misfits are not good people or good Christians.

I'll go one further and say there are worse things in the book than what these people say. The standard argument is context and metaphor- although what context would justify rape and bashing babies heads on rocks is beyond me. Most people who use the "can't be a true christian" argument have not really read those passages that are vile and hateful. A similar argument can be made about muslims who defend islam as pacifist while ignoring the hateful parts of the koran and the hadith.

Fred Phelps' homophobic rant shows what happens with any literal translation of the Bible. Hagee, Robertson, et al. admonish us that Hurricane Katrina was god's punishment for sin. The trouble with fundies is that they believe what they are told.

For a little satire listen to Pastor Deacon Fred of the Landover Baptist Church.

Don't give the fools any publicity. It is bad enough they are wasting oxygen.
