The convening of the Clinton Global Initiative begins in New York City with over 50 current and former heads of state in attendance along with 130 leading CEOs, former Vice President Al Gore and presidential candidate, Senator John McCain. Why are you beaming in via satellite? This is not a WebEx moment!

Yes, we all know that this is a time to share with former President William Jefferson Clinton. So what could it hurt? If you don't want McCain touting Governor Palin as the country's leader on energy at this plenary session on water, food scarcity and energy sustainability, it would be good to see you in the flesh.

There is something very special about being at the deal meeting. Why take the chance? When you are President Obama, you can show up or send one of your folks any way that you want. But don't do it before the deal is done please. And we're not there yet.

This is potentially a moment that one can take away for generations to come. America needs to see you in full regalia standing tall with the leaders of the free world during this time of great financial uncertainty. You are the Citizen of the World. This is the perfect venue for you to seize that torch. Share a little love and capture the "hallmark" moments.

Don't abdicate center stage to McCain until the deal is done. This race is yours for the taking. Don't let anything get in your way - schedules, fundraising, or bad feelings. It is too vital to the future of this country that you grab the brass ring. The past Democratic presidential candidates that did not fully showcase Big Bill did not win. Remember 2000 and 2004. They are hard to forget.

So leave no stone unturned. Show up. Bask in the spotlight. Embrace the leaders and their pied piper.

It is good politics.
