The It Gets Better campaign that we have been seeing all over the internet came to Boston, Sunday night. The message, being spread by the Trevor Project, aims to empower LGBT youth who are the victims of bullying and harassment. The campaign has attracted celebrity support, with numerous big names like Chris Colfer of Glee and Daniel Radcliffe making recorded messages on YouTube.

Around 600 guests turned out at ROCCA Kitchen & Bar in Boston's South End. The restaurant's openly gay chef, Tiffani Faison (who we saw on Season 1 of Top Chef), participated in the festivities with her fiance, and spoke warmly with guests. She was joined by Katherine Patrick, the lesbian daughter of Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Community Relations Director for the governor's Committee to Reelect, and Matthew F. Wilder, Director of Media Relations for Boston Public Schools.

The night was empowering for gay and straight, alike. Especially following the recent suicide by Rutgers student, Tyler Clementi, who jumped off the George Washington Bridge after a video of his gay sexual encounter was posted online. Guests heard the stories of local members of the LGBT community. The event raised $12,136 for The Trevor Project.
