The mainstream media is finally catching onto the growing influence of the progressive movement in this country.

I'll admit upfront that I am highly biased about the groups mentioned in the articles I link to below, that I've consulted for some of them, been a founding board member of others, been friends with the rest, but... I just have to say that it's nice that the mainstream media is finally catching onto the growing influence of the progressive movement in this country.

On consecutive days, there was a front page, top of the fold article in the Sunday New York Times on the anti-war coalition that has become a major player in the debate over the war; and an article in the front page of the business section in the Washington Post on the coalition of many of the same progressive groups that have taken over prime office space on -- ironically enough -- K Street.

Check these stories out. They describe powerful emerging forces in American policies -- politically savvy and experienced; a great combination of idealistic and pragmatic; well-resourced enough to have both a ground operation and the ability to run ads; more than willing to work closely together to drive the debate and hold their own against the right-wing communications machine.

Combined with the power of the progressive blogosphere, this new-progressive movement has the potential to change America in the coming years. The long and painful reign of the right-wing movement in this country is teetering on the verge of oblivion, and our side truly has the potential to sweep into power, if we keep working together.
