Seems like the Kansas Republican Party is a little desperate for cash these days because they're now trying to line their pockets with outdated unemployment numbers. It's really a shameless ask.
A KDP supporter sent their fundraising message into us this morning. Here's some excerpts:
August not only brought high summer temperatures, it brought heated debate on the economy and loss of American jobs. Right here in Kansas, the unemployment rate hit a 26 year high of 7.4%2 in July. Since April 2009, the state lost 30,000 jobs meaning there will soon be over 100,000 unemployed Kansans...

That's pretty crass -- even for the Kansas Republicans.
But you know what's worse? Under the leadership of Democratic Governor Mark Parkinson, Kansas has actually seen a decline in unemployment since July -- bucking the national trend.
As the Topeka Capital-Journal reported just this morning, Kansas' unemployment rate dropped from 7.8% to 7.1%. That doesn't mean we are out of the woods here in Kansas, but it is a sign of hope for the thousands of Kansans still out of work during the George W. Bush recession.
A lot of this has to do with the Recovery Act -- which has saved thousands of jobs right here in Kansas -- and a lot of it has to do with the leadership of Governor Parkinson. But none of it has to do with obstructionist Republicans who would rather raise money than help people get jobs. That's why KSGOP leaders like Lynn Jenkins, Sam Brownback, and Todd Tiahrt voted against the Recovery Act.
In fact, radical conservative Todd Tiahrt is still calling for a repeal of the Recovery Act. A move that, in just one example, would cause the lose of over 1,000 public safety jobs saved by the Recovery Act.
In fact, Tiahrt is holding an expensive, closed doors fundraiser at the Topeka Country Club tonight where he'll surely call for it's repeal again. Seeing a pattern here?
Only the more reason for us to get prepared to compete -- and win -- in 2010.
