It's been a barrel of laughs this summer for Kansas Republicans.
However, instead of Rep. Lynn Jenkins laughing at uninsured constituents, we find voters actually laughing at another Kansas Republican -- Rep. Todd Tiahrt. Earlier this summer, Tiahrt held a town hall meeting on health care reform and made the false claim that H.R. 3200 will set a cap on doctors wages. That claim has been debunked across the board and the attendees knew it.
It's really a stunning rebuke of Kansas Republicans and their lies:
This is just another sign of the tide turning against the Republicans in Kansas.
Need more proof?
Kansans are tired of these theatrics and outright lies while expecting solutions from their elected leaders. The public is looking for an honest debate on important issues like health care, but are instead faced with lies and disdain from Kansas Republicans.
That's why we've seen a statewide turn of events away from the GOP. Midsummer we saw Sens. Brownback and Roberts' approval ratings drop and reports that pro-health care reform crowds were outnumbering opposition at a Lynn Jenkins town hall in Lawrence.
Can't forget not one, but two big rallies in support of Rep. Dennis Moore this summer. And do we really need to recap Laughing Lynn Jenkins' no good very bad horrible August recess?
There are plenty of naysayers floating around, but I'll tell you this -- Democrats have the momentum in Kansas right now. Kansans are tired of being lied too and sick of the blatant partisan politics that dominate the Kansas Republican Party. Do you wanna know how bad it is for them? Just last week, the Republicans were so desperate that had to use old unemployment numbers to try and raise money.
That's pretty crass -- even for them.
We need to keep this momentum going -- and we need your help. We're doing a number of things to both build our party and take on the Republicans this cycle. If you'd like to help us fund efforts like our newest site -- JenkinsFail.com -- then please click here to make a donation.

Don't forget it was the Kansas board of education that a couple of years ago tried to outlaw the teaching of evolution in the schools. Kansas has a long way to go. But do keep up the good work.
Things will change in Kansas, but not for another generation, I suspect. Some of the oldest and most conservative counties in the nation are in Western Kansas. As those folks die or move to where economic opportunity is in the state, the state's population will be even more centralized in the urban areas of the state (Wichita, the Kansas City metro area, Topeka, Lawrence, Manhattan/Ft. Riley/Junction City, Salina, Emporia). It is those areas that are center, center-left, and/or left. Employment opportunities will continue to be based in those urban centers, as will most of the state's educational opportunities. Overall, the state will continue to lose population, but what's left will be in those urban centers.
In the meantime we'll have Sam Brownback as governor next year (the only thing that might keep that from happening is for Gov. Mark Parkinson to change his mind and run to retain his seat). Lynn Jenkins, however, will face a serious challenge in her pursuit of reelection in 2010. Those are the short-term prospects. Long term, I am more optimistic.
Hey, so the Republicans might have to give up lies. No biggie! They've still got corruption and incompetence to run on!
This article is overly optimistic. I work in a corporate environment with professional people in Dennis Moore's district. These are people who really ought to know how to educate themselves on the issues but I was just chided this week for being a socialist and wanting death panels, something that I didn't even believe people were still so stupid to take seriously. My in-laws weekly call to point out some horrible thing that Dems have done (they hear it from Rush) and never believe us when we point out the inaccuracies. All media but Fox is liberal, all ideas except cutting taxes are socialist. It's crazy here and I will eat my hat if KS ever goes Blue.
Misinformation and lies are the manna of the ignorant.
Yeah, I have sadly experienced some of the stuff you mention as well.
In the end, it seems the only way to fight this kind of thing is facts and education. But I don't want Dems to be too passive; we need to show some teeth and remind America that we used to be a nation that looked out for the regular joe.
Good people of Kansas! Don't let those gopers dumb you down.
Not all Kansans are stupid Congressman.
I would love for Kansas to go more blue. We have some real idiots in the red camp, let me tell you. There are some solid blue cities and suburbs but they aren't enough to outweigh the more rural areas dominate by the red. Someday....
The reds fight for the rich and the want-to-be rich. Blues fight for the middle speed brains. And finally we the yellows, we being laboring men slow and careful fellows, we have not the brains to fight our way out of bag of marshmallows.
Can’t get that last part to rhyme, can one of you friendly slave drivers help me out?
Go Kansas! Go Kansas!! :)
Where was the "you lie" comment? I was waiting for it.
Such GOP brainwash has only a three day life expectancy.
Capitalist Kansas, with a capitalist government enforcing the freedom of rich and powerful capitalists to compete for excessive wealth, can it be transformed from the top down?
Capitalist Honduras, with reformist President Zelaya today being hit with teargas inside the Brazilian embassy in Honduras, by a brutal coup dictatorship that yesterday killed three peaceful protesters in Honduras, can he transformed his government from the top down?
And so, if the tens of thousands of protestors now taking to the streets of Honduras, are able to transform their government from the bottom up in Honduras, can we not do the same here in Empire USA?
I've never been to Kansas, but I can tell ya now friends, I like it already.
While Kansans didn't exactly invent the Abolition Movement, or the End of Segregation, they certainly played a big role and they played it wisely. Most of the Kansans I know have a truly skeptical, even cynical heart -- their most lovable feature!
Make us proud again, Kansas!
Well, John Brown was from Kansas, so you can have the Abolition Movement credit, even though it is a stretch.
But to claim credit for desegregation is just prevarication. Brown vs. Board of Education was a lawsuit AGAINST the BoE of Topeka, KS. Credit Thurgood Marshall and the NAACP for convincing the Supreme Court to issue that ruling. Kansas fought it.
The GOP has given us fair warning, Public Option health insurance would destroy capitalism as we know it in the medical industry, and could bring an end to capitalism in America. Capitalists being those who love the freedom to compete for excessive wealth.
Now if we can just get democrats to stop calling the GOP a liar on this, and instead take the ball and run for daylight on this, then capitalism will be history and a thing we can all tell our grandchildren about.
Just like the US Postal Service destroyed UPS and FedEx. Those companies don't exist anymore.
Also, I think you're confused about what the Public INSURANCE option is. The MEDICAL industry will stay the same, the Health INSURANCE industry would have new competition. Last time I checked, capitalism was competition, and the more competition there is, the more WE THE PEOPLE win.
No, absolutely not, competition is an intelligence dictatorship pure and simple.
10% rich + 30% intelligent middleclass + 60% laboring class = dictatorship
Learn from Kansans.
Hope others learn from Kansans. Laugh at ignorance and lies. Redicule them.
Agree!
All GOP LOVE MED ADVANTAGE!
They created in 2003!
TOO BAD they cannot admit FAULT!
Country First and ALL!
Aug 27-2009- on C-Span-
Tom Scully- Bush's CMS Administrator stated Medicare Advantage, Part C- is overpaid!
This is what OBAMA wants to CUT!
Back door elimination to Medicare Med Advantage is now unfolding as to why this was infiltrated into Medicare.
Mr. Scully admits that Med Advantage turned out to be tactfully wrong- he would not admit the other failure- the philosophical failure.
Yet they continue to scare the seniors with their 'death panels' rhetoric.
Scully admits politically- no one wants to tell those 10 million seniors on Med Advantage that the benefits that were subsidized by tax dollars to Insurance companies will no longer be given thus they will not get the benefits they thought they were going to get.
GOP will not - will never admit what they set up has failed miserably.
Just like GOP will never admit MED D failed miserably.
Back door elimination to all democratic institutions- that is the C-Street Philosophy.
NO GOP with GUTS!
NONE of you!
Med Advantage is not MEDICARE- Senator from IDAHO!
