Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Laundromat (VIDEO)

Posted: 05/31/2012 4:31 pm

During this election year you're going to read a lot of economic stories about job numbers. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics 8.1 percent of Americans are unemployed and 12.5 million remain out of work. Pundits and politicians from both sides of the aisle will argue about how to interpret this data.

It's important to remember that those numbers represent a person. Every layoff is accompanied with a tough call home. Every new hire, a dinner to celebrate. This video is the story of Joseph. Like many other Americans he was laid off during the height of the recession. He then took a risk and opened a business. The great thing about Joseph is that his dream wasn't to one day be a banker, police officer, doctor or lawyer, it was just to be a business owner. It didn't matter what that business was, it was just to own a business. There is a wonderful simplicity to that dream. So next time you're reading a numbers story about the American economy, take a second to think about who the people are behind those numbers.
