House on a table, c.1959. Ink and charcoal pencil on paper, 9”x12.” I recently found a few sketchpads of drawings I did when I was about nine years old. I can see in them my fascination with Greek mythology and medieval European culture among other influences form what I was reading at the time and learning about in school. I had a vivid imagination and courage to take on all kinds of imagery from art and life and a burgeoning feminism: here I think this is a medieval abbess with perhaps the plan for a cloister. Whatever I meant then, it inspired Emanations of the House, from 2012.
