Two local charities are teaming up to bring Winchester its first Bollywood Extravaganza. The Extravaganza takes place on 1st October at St Johns House on the Broadway and tickets are now on sale.

Fred Dinenage, the popular TV presenter, will be master of ceremonies for the evening that has been arranged on behalf of Age UK Mid Hampshire and Cancer Research UK.

Fred said:
"This will be a fabulous evening. What an opportunity to enjoy something truly special and unique, while supporting two charities that do so much for so many local people."

The evening will get underway with a drinks reception, followed by a Bollywood fashion show, with the opportunity to bid for the beautiful saris, and then live dhol player, tabla and sitar music, singing and dancing. The three-course dinner comes from Sanjha, one of the south's leading Indian restaurants. For those who would like to come dressed Indian style, there will be arrangements to hire saris and sherwanis.

Lady Alison Wakeham, Age UK Mid Hampshire's patron, said:

"The evening will offer an exciting taste of the exotic world of Bollywood. Our charities have been working with members of the local Indian community for some time to get the arrangements in place. The result will be a night to remember".

Age UK Mid Hampshire (formed when Age UKs Andover and Winchester joined forces last year) now supports 2,000 local older people with services including Lunch and Wellbeing Clubs, Help at Home and Information & Advice. Its work helps people enjoy later life and remain independent while living in their own homes. It depends on local volunteers, fundraising and sponsorship to deliver its services.

Cancer Research UK has helped save millions of lives by discovering new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Its researchers have helped double survival rates in the last 40 years. As the charity receives no government funding, its life-saving work is only possible through public support.

Peter Saund (a local dental surgeon) who helps raise funds for Cancer Research UK, said:

"The Extravaganza promises to be an evening full of exotic fun, surprises and gastronomic delights. Anyone who attends will be assured of a fabulous time.

We have secured major sponsors for the evening, including St James's Wealth Management, Santander, Specsavers, HJS Business Solutions and Taylor Roberts Chartered Accountants."

The Bollywood Extravaganza, on 1st October, begins at 5:30 pm and tickets are now on sale. They cost £65 per person, table seating up to twelve, and include a welcome drink and an authentic Punjabi three course dinner.

Tickets are available from Specsavers at 106a High Street, Winchester (01962 844833) and Age UK Mid Hampshire in Colebrook Street, Winchester (01962 871712).
