John Bolton: Israel Should Nuke Iran

What's Your Reaction?

The neocons are ratcheting it up a few notches. All the way to nuclear war.

Here is what former ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton, said in Chicago on Tuesday.

"Negotiations have failed, and so too have sanctions...So we're at a very unhappy point -- a very unhappy point -- where unless Israel is prepared to use nuclear weapons against Iran's program, Iran will have nuclear weapons in the very near future," he said.

In other words, the way to avert the danger of a nuclear attack is to launch a nuclear attack.

Read this from Daniel Luban at Inter Press Service.

And know this. John Bolton is no outlier. Like Feith, Perle, Kristol and Krauthammer, he is at the heart and soul of neoconservatism.

Give him credit. He says what neocons think. It's war they want, even nuclear. Anything to stop nuclear proliferation!

Will Bolton get his war? Not likely. But Luban explains what he's really up to. "It is nothing new for Bolton and his neoconservative allies to threaten an Israeli strike against Iran. But Bolton's use of the "n-word" is, I believe, new for him, and marks a significant rhetorical escalation from the hawks. An Israeli strike, nuclear or otherwise, without U.S. permission remains unlikely. But as it often the case, I suspect that Bolton's intention is less to give an accurate description of reality than it is to stake out positions extreme enough to shift the boundaries of debate as a whole to the right."

In other words, nuclear war is only Bolton's dream -- something to hope for but not really expect to get.

Bolton is being very untruthful. Iran has had in recent days have had 25 inspections and has not done anything wrong. They have complied with the inspectors. The visits from inspectors wee also surprise inspections. Israel on the other hand have not been inspected in spite of UN Resolutions wanting inspections. The guilty party here is not Iran, but Israel. Iran has not in recent years attacked anyone but Israel certainly has. Even when the US blew up the Iranian passenger plane in 1988 I believe, Iran did not retaliate. Iran has not been at war with anyone. They are not the threat.

So Bolton is paving the way for the world to be grateful when the USA or the IDF unloads everything but the N-bomb on the Iranians. This man is highly dangerous. He needs to go on a retreat of atonement to Gaza, spend time with the Palestinian families; learn firsthand the effects of what he has advocated for yrs.

On 24 April 2004, Uri Avnery wrote:

“This week it became clear that the Americans are full partners in the creation of Israel’s 'nuclear option'. How was this exposed? With the help of Mordecai Vanunu, of course...Everybody understands that he has no more secrets. What can a technician know after 18 years in jail, during which technology has advanced with giant steps?

"...it becomes clear what the security establishment is really afraid of. Vanunu is in a position to expose the close partnership with the United States in the development of Israel’s nuclear armaments.

“This worries Washington so much, that the man responsible in the State Department for “arms control”, Under-Secretary John Bolton, has come to Israel in person for the occasion. Vanunu, it appears, can cause severe damage to the mighty super-power.

"By the way, this John Bolton is an avid supporter of the group of Zionists neo-cons who play a central role in the Bush theater. He opposes arms control for the United States and its satellites..."

Ambassador John Bolton's assessments, over a long period of time, have proved to be unerringly correct. He is insightful and prescient. And he is correctly impatient with the decades of lies that Iran has gotten away with... and still gets away with... without ever being called to account. The UN's tolerance for Iran's exceedingly dangerous and provocative behavior relegates that international organization's credibility to the trash heap. Nuke Iran? Not necessarily. Confront Iran? An absolute requirement. When? NOW! Before it is too late. Or else. Ambassador Bolton has the courage and wisdom to identify the single greatest threat to world peace -- the Iranian nuclear bomb quest. It must be stopped in it's tracks; or, again, "or else." A coalition of the sane and responsible needs to take immediate action -- diplomacy is preferred; failing that, decisive military action. Or else.

Iran is surrounded by over 24 major USA military bases.
The USA is not surrounded by any Iranian bases.

Iran doesn't have weapons and has not used any.
The USA has weapons and has used them.

Who threatens world peace?

Iran has a military budget squarely between Sweden and Norway. Hardly a behemoth capable of world (or even regional) domination.

Most of us don't quake in fear of the mighty Norwegian military juggernaut.

It seems like people who give advice in such areas as international diplomacy ought to (a) know what they're talking about and (b) be right most of the time. Does that sound like John Bolton? No, and no.

In all honesty, Bolton is more dangerous than Iran.

Nukes work as a threat, not as reality. They've been used just twice, on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945. Nobody has dropped or launched them in 64 years.

Remember the movie War Games? Joshua (the computer) played out nuclear war scenarios ad nauseum. He finally concluded that it was a stupid game, and nobody wins.

He went back to Tic-Tac-Toe.

John Bolton is a seriously sick human being. My only question is whether Israeli leadership is as sick that they would contemplate unleashing their nuclear weapons.
10:26 PM on 10/15/2009
Quite possibly they are. They would then spend all their time and influence trying to discredit any impartial UN reports on the war crimes they have committed by dropping their nukes and killing thousands of civilians .

In a ideal Bolton world, everyone would be nuking everyone. Then Bolton can talk about how dangerous the world is and why we should nuke the countries that haven't been nuked yet. Bolton must just throw darts toward a map and think "let's nuke them" and"let's nuke them." The guy never fears being a total caricature of himself the the neocon movement. If one neocon ever spent a moment in the real military, the world would collapse. They stay away from the real fighting.
