Last Gasp Summer Reading Suggestions for Kids [VIDEO]

Posted: 08/11/11 05:30 PM ET

It is August and an odd time for kids. While some are still at camp, at the pool, on family vacations, and otherwise relaxing, others are heading back to school. Wherever they are they are probably doing a bit of reading, some because they want to and some because they have to. Thinking particularly of the latter I asked my friend Betsy Bird, a New York City librarian and well-known children's lit blogger, if she'd like to join me in suggesting a few final fun reads. She did and so here is an entertaining video featuring the two of us, a bunch of books, and the occasional baby sound effects. Enjoy!

love, Love, LOVE this! And Yaya to Cindy and Dan, such a great choice! My twelve year old is reading Dracula and despairing we don't have enough heavy tomes, becuase she really likes BIG books. The Twenty two year old is reading Ann Rice, me Holly Black and PD and Kristin Cast (and trying to finish. the. book.) Thanks so much for this, I've posted it to my FB wall and twittered, er tweeted it! Did I hear cooing and gurgling in the back ground! Future readers of America! Yaya to Monica and Fuse #8!
