The Chicago Conference on Human Rights is a one-day conference scheduled for Saturday, 4 October 2008, at 10 a.m. It was inspired by the upcoming September 2008 United Nations NGO conference "Celebration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights" at UNESCO, Paris, honoring the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and includes Chicago's role in complying with the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination as detailed in Chicago's Shadow Report.

The purpose of the conference is to provide a forum for local university students to come together with academic, legal, NGO and government experts, and student leaders to discuss major human rights issues and to expand their minds and hearts in understanding and practicing human rights. Presenters throughout the day will examine major human rights issues from both the local and global perspectives, discuss the pressing issues of human rights in Chicago and study how universities and nonprofit organizations are making international connections to empower their local work with the people in Chicago and with the City of Chicago government.

To become a pro-active peacemaker, join the conversation and see how you can make a difference!
