"Grrl Power" buzz has grown louder since the 90's born Riot Grrrl music movement triggered a "Girl Power" everything emphasis around celebrating girls and women. Grrl Power's continued impact is most evident in media made by women. As the Executive Director of Reel Grrls, I'm excited to continue fueling this movement by empowering girls and teens as next-generation media makers - and continuing to build community with talented women already making their mark.

A new buzz-worthy tool is Echo Media Mobile, an app being developed right here in my own back yard of Seattle, by former Reel Grrls board member, Melinda Fox. Echo will curate, personalize and guide users towards women-centric film, TV and on-demand content. It will be the first life-style app to activate 21st century purchasing power around women in film and amplify content where we all see more of ourselves. If you want a sneek peek - you can sign up for the beta-release of Echo.

Part of the movement to spotlight women media makers is Barbara Ann O'Leary's Directed by Women, a global call to action to watch female directed films. From September 1 - 15, we'll be participating in #DirectedbyWomen - a global watch party celebrating the incredible diversity of films by and perspectives from women filmmakers. Movie-lovers around the world are encouraged to take part throughout the grassroots campaign and share our participation by hash tagging #DirectedbyWomen.

In 2012 Reel Grrls was part of director Kristy Guevara-Flanagan's Wonder Women, the Untold Story of American Superheroines. In the spirit of collective impact, Reel Grrls is excited to partner with Echo and Scarecrow Video, (Seattle's shrine to indie films) to screen Wonder Women on September 15th as part of Directed by Women.

Join the movement that supports media made by women! Attend a screening, or host one as part of Directed by Women.
