Cut Performance, Documentation and Drawing
Cotton Rag Paper, Razor Blade
2010 (Photo: Geneva Skeen)
Curated by Dino Dinco as a collaborative performance with noise band Moment Trigger, this work created labyrinthine spaces using wall-‐size sheets of paper that shielded the performers from view. As the electronic sound began, I slowly slashed open the paper walls and tore down the confined spaces using my body and razor blades, exposing the performers. The action references early Japanese performance art (Gutai) and the origins of punk rock and noise music in the West. >>About Nancy Popp
