This song popped up at the end of a session in NYC last month. We recorded it that night before we went home. Hope you enjoy this little Shakey Pix video we did last week. I'll be with you on the 20th.
- Joe the rock star
Lyrics to "Fork in the Road"
Got a pot belly. It's not too big. Gets in my way when I'm driving my rig. Driving this country in a big old rig, things I see mean a lot.
My friend has a pickup. Drives his kid to school. Then he takes his wife to beauty school. Now she's doin' nails. Gonna get a job. Got a good teacher.
There's a fork in the road ahead. I don't know which way I'm gonna turn. There's a fork in the road ahead.
Forgot this year, to salute the troops. They're all still there in a fucking war. It's no good. Whose idea was that?
I've got hope, but you can't eat hope. I'm not done. Not giving up. Not cashing in. Too late.
There's a bailout coming but it's not for me. It's for all those creeps watching tickers on TV. There's a bailout coming but it's not for me.
I'm a big rock star. My sales have tanked, but I still got you. Thanks! Download this. Sounds like shit.
Keep on bloggin' 'til the power goes out, and your battery's dead.
Twist and Shout. On the radio. Those were the days. Bring 'em back.
There's a bailout coming but it's not for you. It's for all those creeps hiding what they do. There's a bailout coming but it's not for you. Bailout coming but it's not for you.
Got my new flat-screen. Got it repo'd now. They picked it up. Left a hole in the wall. Last Saturday. Missed the Raiders game.
There's a bailout coming but it's not for you. There's a bailout coming but it's not for you. It's for all those creeps hiding what they do.

Why is it that the best Americans are Canadians? Thanks, Neil!
My first concert was Crosby, Stills, Nash and YOUNG, Nassau Coliseum, 8/13/74. My first girlfriend gave me Harvest. Thanks, Neil, for doing all you do, musically and otherwise. And thank Shakey too.
"It's the Trillion dollar, bash..!"
Basement tapes...
Really great Neil, well done brother...
TJ...
Neil as always manages to capture what we feel so simply and aptly.
Keep it coming Neil. Come back to the US soon the east coast needs more Neil.
From my parents' coffee house, "The Second Cup" when I was born in 1966 on forward - Mr. Young: You have rocked my Canadian life. Thank you for yet another hit!

Someone walks among us
And I hope he hears the call
And maybe it's a woman
Or a black man after all
Yeah maybe it's Obama
But he thinks that he's too young
Maybe it's Colin Powell
To right what he's done wrong

Neil, pretty cool to have your hopes exceeded for once, isn't it?
BTW, you're right, you've still got us.
Keep on rockin' in the free world!
"I've got hope, but you can't eat hope.." Great stuff, Niel Young. And like the honesty of the lyrics. Keep writing, keep singing, I do think there may be a bit of a resurgence in meaningful music's appeal to the general public. On a somber note, I think you touched on something there that hasn't yet surfaced in the news. A lot of folks bought second and third vehicles, boats, motorsports toys, unnecessary toys which they can no longer make payments on. "Repo Nation" is the buzzword for 2009.
Oh, Mr. Young, if you haven't heard it yet, check out James McMurtry's song, "We Can't Make it Here Anymore" on you tube.
I'm trying to not let it all bring me down, Neil.
Has any other musician been as consistently great for so long?
No. No one is even close.
Neil Young is the best ever. Bumper stickers should be issued.
I love Neil.
who'd've guessed that the bailout would make such a great chorus? Thanks Neil. Just dont make Walmart the only place you sell it and I'll find a way to get it.
God Bless, Neil Young!
Neil Young - Am always a fan of yours. Find myself quoting your songs to people every now and then. Which is sort of embarrassing! Thanks so much for posting this. I had to laugh out loud at the flat-screen bit.
That is right, you can't eat hope. And the bailout isn't for us. We are all f***ed thanks to the corporate thieves. Neil Young should be the nation's poet laureate, even though he may still be a citizen of Canada. He hits the nail right on the head. I think bush should give his pension back to the government to help all the men and women who survived being in iraq and are ruined for life. Neil Young you have always rocked. Thank you for saying what the rest of us think.
Neil is great - always has been. He does what he wants; some good, some not as good. But always the real Neil. That makes him a hero to me.
