The CNN political analyst and Washington bureau chief for American Urban Radio Networks said she didn't realize it was a fundraiser.
The reporter pulled no punches as she bid the outgoing White House press secretary goodbye — and confirmed she wouldn't attend her party.
Last week, April Ryan used a metaphor to urge the White House to fire the press secretary, but Sanders spun the remarks into a violent threat.
Trump responded to the veteran White House reporter's question by pointing at her and turning away.
"45 is finishing off another week attacking Black women journalists," wrote New York Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke. "When will it end?"
“I hope you felt the passion of my thankfulness," April Ryan said.
Women of color "have had a lifetime of practice taking precisely these kinds of indignities in stride."
