Not so fast, BP. The oil company is running TV ads trumpeting that the Gulf Coast is well on its way to recovery from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Whitewashing the situation may actually slow the progress towards recovery.
Though almost every American uses fossil fuels in our daily lives, we need to recognize the incredible toll it has had on our foreign policy, our country, its people and irreplaceable natural resources. It's not too late to change, and move toward an energy-efficient and renewable energy economy.
Filmmaker Laura Israel isn't tilting at windmills -- but she does want to cast a critical eye in their direction. And she's done that with Windfall -- her first documentary film.
Congress and the Administration should be doing much more in response to the Gulf Spill. But at the very least passing the Oil Spill Tax Fairness Act would be a good first step.

Obama's State of the Union promise to open more offshore oil and gas fields and support natural gas development lacks one ingredient if the public is to receive the full economic benefits.
For a century the oil, gas and coal industries have been getting Americans' hard-earned income tax money to provide energy to this country. The natural gas industry has benefited from 30 years of taxpayer money to now be able to drill holes across the U.S. and pollute our waterways.
