The film, which won the main prize at this year's Deauville Film Festival, is a character study of Bill (Wes Bentley), an insurance adjuster whose straight-arrow approach to life is shaken by what being jobless forces him to do.
The acknowledgment of your own uncoolness is the only thing cool about it. If you can look at yourself and say "uncool" then you have learned something very important about the human condition, about the haves and have-nots -- and especially the unfairness of life.
"We just went into the studio with the ambition to put out as good a music as we could do and we didn't really worry about whether it was going to be successful. We put it out there and it catches the public's imagination."
War Horse is based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo, a solid young adult novel with classic status in the UK. It was turned into a brilliant bit of theater (really, you should see it if at all possible). But Spielberg's film fails on every level.
