Chasing Madoff is a searing indictment of the fast-and-loose free-market attitude that nearly sank the world economy. I can't imagine how painful it would be to watch it, were I someone who had lost a fortune to Madoff's malfeasance.

Fourteen million Americans were unemployed in May. All the while, corporations rake in record profits. This disconnect between public need and public policy is causing widespread suffering. Why isn't our government serving us, and what can we do?

The Wall Street flimflam boys who made mad gambles to enrich themselves, knowing losses would be government-backed, are still at large. We now have at least a fictional comeuppance for these thieves.

It's a good time to dust off your queue and take a look at some of the best documentaries of 2010 while we can still remember them.

I hope Inside Job, with its broad appeal, will continue to find new audiences. There isn't a day that its relevance is diminished, reinforced this week in the president's State of the Union message.

Three of the four films I saw at Sundance 2011 on Saturday not only fit the bill for 'comedy,' but acquit themselves nicely. And each comes from a different country -- the U.S., Ireland and Norway.

Inside Job cuts through the fog of disinformation and punditry to expose the truth about a catastrophic event, clarifying for the everyman the financial meltdown of 2008 that wrecked the lives of millions.

Inside Job explains complex ideas with a clarity and skill that make them comprehensible to anyone willing to pay attention. But Charles Ferguson does it in a way that doesn't dumb things down.
