The Big Debate

Show me why you would be different in the area that is literally about life and death. The polls suggest that foreign policy is not factoring that highly on the minds of American voters this election, but if you think about it, maybe it should.

When all of us here at Lynn University look back on October 22, 2012, we will not remember Debate Day for the long hours we all worked or for the logistical challenges with which we were faced. Instead, we will remember it as the culmination of our entire campus' efforts to rise to the challenge.

U.S. and Iranian officials need to begin presenting a new picture of what relations between the two countries might look like. Attempts to conceal or hide diplomatic efforts only further entrench politicians to uphold false narratives that ultimately harm both Iranians and Americans alike.

Tonight's presidential debate will focus on foreign policy. As we listen to Democratic and Republican presidential candidates it is worth saying that a thoughtful foreign policy isn't about who can drop the most bombs.

Presidential Debate 2012: Obama, Romney Have Final Showdown In Boca Raton

HuffingtonPost.com | Jason Linkins | Posted 10.22.2012 | Politics

Monday night, the Commission On Presidential Debates wraps up the 2012 series of debates with its extra special season finale. When we last left our protagonists, President Barack Obama and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, they were, basically, yelling at each other about a host of issues before an audience of undecided voters from whom the questions of the evening were extracted. It made for a sharp series of exchanges and an emphasis on the theatrical. The president, having decided to ditch the somnambulatory techniques he used in his first disastrous debate, showed substantially more verve in his second outing, and has been generally characterized as the winner, on points. But Romney held up decently as well, turning in a performance that conservative pundits could continue to support. Now, they meet one last time, in a debate that decides everything. We guess? Let's just go with that.

Sham Debates and Endless War: The Shame of Our Political Discourse

Both Obama and Romney prefer to praise the troops rather than address the tragic consequences of continuing military action in Afghanistan and elsewhere. The latter, when they're addressed at all, are reduced to sound bites and homilies about the need to "stay the course" and "support our troops."

Nobody cares how he did it. The main thing is: Obama got his mojo back. He remojoed. The Major Mojo Mofo no longer runs in Slo-Mo. He was focused, energized and seemed determined to not let the challenger go all Joe Frazier on his butt again.

The Ledbetter case is not simply a story of how women are denied equal pay -- though it is certainly powerful on that front -- it is also a template for strategic action by progressives in fighting over the courts that could and should be scaled up and broadly deployed.
