At the Cannes Lions Festival this year, I spent some time with Linda Yaccarino, Chairman, Advertising Sales and Client Partnerships at NBCUniversal. Linda oversees all advertising sales and market strategy for the company's entire TV portfolio including two broadcast, 17 cable and more than 50 digital properties.
This idea, the concept of cinema as a hand across cultures, is exactly what the TFI Documentary Fund is about. From a festival that began to heal a city, to a program and their funds that continue to mend the world through cinema, TFI is high on my list of groundbreaking, life-changing organizations. Many may have tried to imitate it but none have even come close.
A League of Their Own's Geena Davis, is doing something extremely important this week in, of all places, Bentonville, Arkansas. The Geena Davis Institute on Gender and Media has is supporting her effort to call attention to the unacceptable reality in which women, both behind and in front of the camera, find themselves in Hollywood.
