Cutting bangs for most of us is one of those safe attempts at trying something new and adding a little spice to our old selves. Doing it in the high profile of the White House takes some courage. Good for Michelle for not being afraid. And better for Michelle for showing us how every mid-life crisis needn't end in inflicting pain on those we love.
It's no secret that many women over 50, even if we've been thin all our lives, can easily pack on a few extra post-menopausal pounds, without trying too hard. The weight can sometimes slowly creep up on us over a span of years, taking us by surprise, and before you know it . . . poof! . . . we're an "apple."
Caring for an infant or touching someone's life as she [or he] is growing up is about loving care. Supporting a young woman's goals and dreams are vital especially in our culture. Being generous with support even if they change paths or do not measure up to some idealized version of what you thought they should become. It is about letting them find their own way, but remaining a touchstone.
